Last Remains Project Report and Future Outlook
Ongoing Work:
1. Smoother Combat
We are optimizing all melee animations to improve responsiveness and make key feedback more immediate. Additionally, we are adjusting some combat animations to balance weapons and enhance the overall fighting experience (e.g., reducing the startup and recovery frames of five melee actions while preventing infinite combos).
2. Randomized Maps
The current large map will be divided into smaller sections, ensuring that each time players enter the game, they are placed in a randomly generated mini-map. The maximum number of players and zombies will be reduced, leading to significantly improved performance. We estimate an increase of 20-40 FPS on all PC configurations.
3. PvE Story Mode
New players can first experience a pure PvE story mode to familiarize themselves with the game mechanics and immerse themselves in the zombie world in single-player mode. The story mode will feature multiple mission-based scenarios and various challenges. Completing these missions will earn rewards, helping players progress more quickly and transition smoothly through the early stages of the game.
Future Plans:
1. World Boss
A world boss will randomly appear in certain areas of the game. All players will be notified and can team up to take on this massive enemy. PvP will be temporarily disabled in the boss area. Defeating this incredible threat will grant high-value rewards.
2. Improved New Player Experience & Story Mode
To enhance the onboarding experience, we are developing a brand-new story mode to give players clearer objectives at the start of the game. This mode will offer a more streamlined, accessible, and engaging early-game experience.
3. Drones
A customizable drone system will be introduced, serving multiple purposes in the game. These abilities include reconnaissance, disrupting enemies, distracting zombies, and transporting high-value items (similar to secure containers in Escape from Tarkov).
This will be a deep progression system, requiring players to gather materials in-game to upgrade different drone functions.
Drones will offer more options for players who frequently struggle with extraction.
4. Random Events
Various random events will be triggered in-game. Some will be PvE missions requiring teamwork, while others will be PvP missions encouraging competition for rewards. These dynamic events will provide endless gameplay possibilities.
Example: Treasure Map Mission – Players must find and piece together sections of a treasure map to locate hidden treasure within the environment. However, while multiple maps exist, only one real treasure is available. Players must race against competitors to claim it first. Clues will be provided throughout the process, making interactions with the environment more engaging and rewarding.
5. More Elite Zombies
Over time, new types of elite zombies will be introduced, adding fresh challenges to PvE gameplay. Some planned variations include:Ranged Elite, Fast Nocturnal Elite, Flying Elite, Wall-Climbing Elite.
Players will need to think strategically and creatively to survive. Understanding the environment and adapting tactics will be key to success.
