Dears,
The Vault is the final destination of every expedition in Don’t Wake the Beast. It sits at the end of the 3rd Floor of the Dungeon, guarded by piles of treasure, shimmering coins, ancient artifacts… and one very unpleasant surprise:
A Sleeping Beast.
This room is designed as the climax of your run - unless you choose to leave earlier through one of the Dungeon Exits. Once you step inside the Vault, the doors slam shut behind you. There’s no turning back. Your only way out is through the Main Artifact… and whatever consequences follow after grabbing it.
The Vault: A Golden Trap
The Vault contains three things:
The Main Artifact you need to complete your expedition
A sleeping beast who really prefers not to be bothered
A lot of optional treasure
The moment you pick up the Main Artifact, the Escape phase begins immediately. The Beast wakes up, the chase starts, and your priority becomes survival rather than collecting coins.
But here’s where the mind game begins:
Do you grab the Artifact right away… or get greedy first?

Because if you:
Wake the Beast before taking the Main Artifact, the chase still begins - but the Artifact becomes impossible to pick up for the rest of that expedition.
Avoid waking the Beast, you’re free to collect treasure at your own pace… but every step, clink, and clatter risks disturbing it.
This creates the core dilemma of the Vault:
Greed vs. survival.
The Sleeping Beast: A System of Awareness and Danger
Every Beast variant has:
A specific field of vision
One or more eyes, each generating its own sight cone
A unique behavior pattern
A set of attacks during escape
It may look peaceful, but the Beast is constantly responding to your actions - even without waking up fully.
Here’s what it cycles through:
1. Sleep
In this state, the Beast is blind - vision doesn't matter.
But sound absolutely does. Any noise you make fills its Awakening Meter.
Fill it completely, and it enters…
2. Noise Check
This is triggered when it hears something suspicious.
During the Noise Check:
It becomes vulnerable to both sound and vision triggers
It can now perform various attacks, such as firing a fireball that destroys the cover you're hiding behind
It sweeps her vision toward the source of the sound
It may also switch the window it’s using, shifting its viewpoint to get closer to the noise source
If you’re standing there… you’re in trouble.
3. Full Awakening
This happens when the Detection Gauge fills while you’re still inside the Vault.
No turning back - the Beast awakens, and the Escape begins.

(Fun reminder: the Escape starts no matter what. But if you wake the Beast too early, you’ll lose your chance to collect the Main Artifact.)
