It all begins in Tianjin in the year 1935. An old diary found on a police desk opens a cold case, unearthing the lives of those trapped by fate. Once you touch that cover, the wheels of fate begin to turn.
The Zodiac Mystery isn’t just a period crime story. It is a layered narrative, carefully crafted with the depth of a long-form drama and the tension of a complex mystery. Every choice the player makes pushes the story in a new direction, gradually reshaping the outcome.
Stories That Begin at Home
The game’s emotional core is inspired by its creator’s own family history. Their stories of hardship, fractured bonds, and the struggle to love and be loved are all deeply woven into the game. Rather than focus on legends or heroes, The Zodiac Mystery turns its gaze toward the raw, complicated ties within a family.
For years, our team researched real accounts from the Republican era, drawing from the struggles of everyday people to create a cast that feels grounded and alive. The characters' fears, their loyalty, and the mistakes they carry all mirror those once lived by a generation surviving in uncertain times.
When a story grows from lived experiences and encapsulates the heart of human nature, it is able to transcend time. The wounds of our characters may reflect our own, but the hope they carry forward is the same light that helps all of us face the dark.
One Core Mystery, Multiple Endings
At its heart, The Zodiac Mystery is built around solving a string of astrological murders. Every mechanic, puzzle, and interaction is built to support that central goal. Investigating crime scenes, scouring case files, decrypting coded messages, and interrogating suspects all bring you closer to the truth.
From the moment you open the diary detailing live sacrifices and demonic summoning rituals, the case takes hold of you. Sift through the archives, examine bloodstained scenes, and match each crime to the signs written in the stars. Each discovery, each question, and each silent stare from a suspect brings you one step closer.
Even so, no single answer is final, as your choices completely shift the outcome at key moments. You might offer a suspect redemption; or perhaps you might choose to pursue harsh justice. Your interpretations of astrological signs and subtle cues may even unlock hidden endings.
The result is a story that remains focused, yet allows for replayability. Each new path reveals a different facet of the same enigma.
The Cast Behind the Puzzle
The characters in The Zodiac Mystery are complex, human, and deeply flawed. Take Lianshen, our protagonist. He isn’t a perfect detective; his childhood was marked by abandonment, violence, and loneliness. Learning became his escape, and a kind neighbor’s care helped him believe he could be more than the scars he carried.
On the surface, he is talkative and optimistic, full of energy and confidence. But beneath that exterior lies someone shaped by insecurity. His dream of becoming a renowned detective is rooted in self-worth, revenge, and the desire to pay tribute to the person who once saved him.
Lianshen’s every decision reflects the shadows and light of his past. Each choice the player makes carries weight precisely because this isn’t merely about solving a mystery—it’s about shaping a man who is still learning how to live with himself.
In The Zodiac Mystery, the anchor is truth, but the ocean is human nature. What is justice? Who deserves redemption? What do we owe our past?
By the end of your journey, you may find more than just a conclusion. You may find, in someone else’s story, a glimpse of your own, as well as a little courage to keep going.
