In "The Zodiac Mystery," obsession flows through the Republican-era setting like a silent yet raging undercurrent, pushing the investigation closer to an answer.
Lianshen is a quick-witted Gemini and a top graduate from the police academy. After studying abroad in Europe, he returns to China with a burning passion for justice. Though he could have chosen an easier or even more promising career, he decides to work at the Liulitai Police Station in Tianjin, pursuing truth on the front lines. After getting sucked into a difficult case and realizing a longtime friend may be involved, Lianshen remains steadfast in his pursuit, even though the choice between loyalty and justice nearly tears him apart. His obsession acts as a guide, helping him tune out all background noise. With all the sharp instincts of a typical Gemini, he pieces together clues as if he is spinning a web, grabbing hold of every thread and leaving nowhere for the truth to hide.
Chief Jiao, a Scorpio and seasoned detective, harbors a quiet yet unwavering obsession with justice, buried under decades of experience. Though he was once the pride of the police academy, he has long since pushed those accolades aside. When faced with a painful choice between love and justice, he hesitates. However, his steadfast obsession with doing what's right pushes him to stand firm. He uses Scorpio's signature calm and sharp insight to guide the investigation forward as he works alongside Lianshen. He is not only solving a case—he is passing on his legacy. Through Linashen, he hopes the torch of justice will continue to burn.
In addition to Lianshen and Chief Jiao, other key characters such as Tianbao, Jinrong, and Xiaowen are also driven by their obsessions. Some try to make up for past regrets, while others chase a future they can't stop dreaming about. These fixations clash and interweave like gears in a machine, pushing the tale forward through a tangled mass of love, hate, and hidden agendas.
In this strange and unpredictable mystery, obsession is both a flicker of light guiding toward the truth and an invisible vine constricting each soul. Every character is caught in their own struggle as players experience the heat, weight, and chaos of the path to justice.
