Hi everyone!
Back with another devlog, and there's plenty to be excited about! Since our last update, we’ve been hard at work refining Ritual Chamber, adding new mechanics, expanding the spell roster, and enhancing the game’s overall feel. Let’s dive right in!
New Spells & Expanded Magic
The spell arsenal has grown significantly, with a mix of buffs and spells that use new mechanics. Here’s a glimpse of some of the latest additions:
- Oversurge (Sorcery) – Release a shockwave that explodes spell constructs and projectiles, inflicting the Feedback debuff on entities.
- Soul Predator (Sorcery) – Fire a volley of homing projectiles that reward Mana with each that lands.
- Fulminate (Sorcery) – Bullets struck create nodes of lightning that strike each other and nearby entities.
- Bonebreaker (Fleshmithing) –.Struck entities have their bones pulled out of them. Breaking those bones leaves them bleeding.
- Succor of the Departed (Fleshmithing) – A Ritual Spell. Bleeding entities and corpses within periodically release a homing heal bolt.
- Catapult (Druidy) – Kick a boulder that erupts into an earthy impact or launch yourself, leaving behind a shockwave.
This is just a portion of what’s being worked on—expect even more variety in future updates!
Worldbuilding & Level Design Enhancements
Ritual Chambers is becoming even more immersive, with environmental lore being fleshed out to give deeper meaning to locations and adversaries. While not yet fully integrated, expect worldbuilding elements to shape the atmosphere and narrative.
Aesthetic Overhaul – Levels are being redesigned for better visual cohesion.
New mechanics:
- Kill-to-open doors – Clear all enemies to unlock paths.
- Randomized loot – More destructible objects and hidden caches.
- Rune Pedestal mechanic – Stand on a pedestal to charge an explosive effect.
- Crystal orb system – Crystals now home in on you automatically.

Progression Systems: Divine Organon & Karmic Conduit
Two major systems are being developed to add long-term progression:
- Divine Organon – A progression tree where Aspect Levels allow for spell upgrades, earned through combat and spell usage.
- Karmic Conduit – A new out-of-run system where accumulating Karma (through kills, actions, and quests) lets you unlock blessings that enhance your base attributes, improve spell efficiency, and expand your starting spell choices.

Movement Tweaks
Dashing has been improved to feel faster and sharper—perfect for those who love quick, sudden escapes or aggressive repositioning.
New Enemies & Boss Encounters
The horrors within Ritual Chambers continue to evolve. We’ve added brand-new enemies, a mini-boss, and a main boss—each bringing unique challenges. Combat pacing has been tuned to feel more intense, with enemies dealing greater damage but having lower health to keep fights deadly and engaging.
Knock-back system – A new mechanic where dealing enough damage can stagger enemies, inspired by Soulslike poise mechanics.
New enemy movements – More exaggerated attack animations, better telegraphs, and refined behavior.

Expanded Arsenal: More Guns & Variants
Guns are getting a much-needed boost (and more upcoming)! We’ve updated four new firearms:
- Inquisitor (Assault Rifle)
- Homage (Pistol)
- First Promise (Revolver)
- Fervor (Shotgun)
Each firearm will also have stat variations, encouraging different playstyles and loadout experimentation.

Where the game’s at?
We’ve made big strides since the last Dev log, which was…already a few months back. Wow. Anyways, I’m a little stressed but hopeful about he current state of the game! Namely, optimisation and creating background systems have been unexpectedly challenging.
As it is, though, the first level of the game and a good amount of the main progression systems have been settled! The core game loop is implemented, we have a good amount of starting spells, and the environment and VFX are looking good! I’m especially happy about having the Boss fight and spell levelling system in place.
Next up is completing planned level mechanics, sprinkling the nuggets of the background lore we’ve been cooking, and, of course, introducing new firearms and spells!
These are just some of the highlights! More features are in development, and there’s plenty more to come as Ritual Chamber continues to evolve. Let us know what excites you the most, and stay tuned for future devlogs!
See you in the depths,
B
