Rottenroots Episode 1 - Update 3.0
From the team at Klabautermann Games
Award Winner & Featured by Gronkh!
Before we dive into the update: Rottenroots Episode 1 has won the Deutsche Indie Showcase Official Selection Award! We're also incredibly honored to have been featured by Gronkh, one of Europe's biggest streamers, in his Deutsche Indie Showcase. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey!
To celebrate this, we are releasing a big 3.0 update:
Narrative Improvements:
Complete makeover of Audrey's character, so she's a more serious competition as a love interest!
Major writing refinements across multiple scenes for improved flow and clarity
More dynamic meadow and raft sequences
Option to get more context about background lore
More hidden lore to uncover throughout the game
Clearer hints to some of the game's mysteries
Adjusted sprite emotions throughout the game to better match dialogue and story moments
Enhanced Kurt's and Lynn'sncharacter introductions for more fitting first impressions
Choice System Enhancements:
More choices throughout the game (now featuring 433 on-screen choices and 392 choice outcomes)
More stat check moments - depending on how high your stats are, certain situations can now succeed or fail
New object health system: Your choices can cause objects to break, leading to failing certain checks
Adjusted timer lengths for timed choices
Quality of Life:
Autosave now triggers on new scenes and when exiting the game (even if you just close the window)
The continue button now loads autosave instead of quicksave
Added log feature - you can now scroll back to reread segments or look at questions again
Visual Improvements:
Updated UI
Added screen shake
Added a new background
Improved Lynn's Home Screen wobbling animation
Technical Fixes:
Fixed pretty much all remaining typos (we know there were a few...)
Resolved remaining Steam achievement bugs - achievements should now trigger properly
Fixed menu not fading completely to black when starting the game
Removed Herobrine
Just How Big Is Episode 1?
If Rottenroots Episode 1 were a Word document, it would be 825 pages long with a total of 154,500 words...
That's longer than The Hunger Games (99,750 words) and even The Two Towers (143,436 words)!
But not all of this content is seen in a single playthrough. A lot of these words are hidden behind different paths and choice outcomes, waiting to be discovered on your next run!
What's Coming in a Future Update:
More writing improvements and sprite adjustments
Increasing the amount of stat check moments for more moments that succeed and fail, depending on your version of Salem
Sprites for Albrecht will be added
Thank you for your continued support and feedback! We're committed to making Rottenroots the best experience possible. We'll keep polishing the demo while we complete the remaining episodes - with plans to release the full game later this year!
We are still working on more QOL features, CGs, and other artworks.
If you have any feedback, we're always happy to hear from you here on Steam or on social media!
