Hello again! It's been a few weeks longer than I expected.
Today I'm pleased to announce that the Scarlet Incursion update is finally out! As a smaller update it was initially planned to release last month, but as some of you may have seen on the official DASHPUNCH socials, some technical issues got in the way, among other busyness. With those out of the way, onward to the patch notes!
Gameplay:
- Boss 3 has been rebuilt from the ground up to be more in line with the difficulty curve, at least in terms of attack patterns. I'll likely be tweaking their exact numbers in the coming days/weeks based on feedback, but they should feel a lot more fun to fight now!
- There is now an arrow on the right side of the pause screen, that takes you to a new menu to view your current Legacy Upgrades. This should give a better idea of what the upgrade trees look like, as well as keep better track of what you have!
- The pause screen now also shows your Artifact information, if you have one.
- Added 1 new cursed item: Sniper's Cataract. Find it in Mezztik's shop!
QoL:
- A new menu can be found on the title screen, called "Collection". Inside it are two options, "Bestiary" and "Achievements".
- The Bestiary gives you a display of every enemy you've defeated across your entire save file. This currently includes the number of kills, and the number of deaths you've had against every enemy in the game! Note that the game hasn't been tracking this until now, so you'll need to play a run after the update to see anything here.
- The Achievements menu gives you an in-game way to see what achievements you've collected, which ones are available, and what they've unlocked for you.
Technical:
- Fixed the Rainbow Swirl achievement being automatically unlocked on any hit. Oops!
- Bodybullet effects no longer work on invulnerable enemies or bosses.
- Fixed some edge cases with hitbox tracking for certain attacks.
- Fixed Greedy Claw allowing you to phase through walls. The lunge now stops on contact with a solid object or wall.
- Fixed some attacks using the wrong SFX
- Fixed many cased of Demon Pact status not being applied to certain projectiles
- Fixed some incorrect mouse offsets in the settings menu
- Bat on a String will now warp to your location when using the map screen.
- Bat on a String will no longer target invulnerable enemies, like worm golem segments.
- Fixed Parry not detecting certain hitboxes
- Certain values now save to file when exiting a run for any reason (manual exit, dying, ending portal) rather than every time they're updated. Might save a little on performance?
Final Notes: What's next?
EA 1.2, for starters! With the current slice of the game being in a more solid spot than ever, I can finally take some time to expand on new content. The next update is a big one, so expect a little bit of everything!
HOWEVER!
It's probably no surprise to hear that the delays with Scarlet Incursion have, in fact, put off the whole schedule I had planned out for the remaining updates; I was already cutting it pretty close without the detours! So I'll cut to the chase: There's gonna be another roadmap update coming soon, and both EA 1.2 and Release 1.0 are getting pushed back a quarter to give me some breathing room. This lands EA 1.2 at Q3 and Release 1.0 at Q3-4, but unlike the previous updates I don't expect these to land at the very end of those timeframes, and could easily release sooner rather than later. I mostly want to avoid another situation like this one, where an update releases weeks behind schedule due to unplanned circumstances. But I hope you'll look forward to it anyway!
All the best,
-DoubleV
