I'm happy to announce that after a long months of work, which you probably didn't see because of the lack of updates, for what I'm really sorry, I'm finally rolling out huge update that fix most if not all the bugs you guys reported, for what I'm really thankful, so I hope you'll enjoy this new update that made Qubicks feel like a completely new game.
There are actually so many updates that I decided to split these Patch Notes into categories.
Quality of Life improvements
- Completely reworked design of Research Panel (the panel that pops up when you click on the base), now it better suits the overall style of the game, and it now shows the Health of your base.
- Completely reworked how environmental conditions work and affect gameplay - more details in the separate category below.
- Completely reworked system of level generation, now all levels are of adequate size, meaning you can find use for the whole map, not only the 1 half. Also speed of generation was increased 10 times.
- Completely reworked way of displaying ranges of the tower, now they are more optimized, don't get stuck in textures, and display dead zones of a tower.
- Made some models (e.x, cannons, laser beamers, etc.) a bit smaller so they don't poke out much to the enemy path, making it a bit more visually appealing.
- Completely reworked the design of tooltips, now they fit the visual theme and atmosphere.
- Made warnings about the environment a bit less annoying.
Environment rework
- Radioactivity now has 3 stages - the first stage makes your towers stall randomly, the second one weakens all your towers, and the third one destroys organic towers.
- Introduced "Research Points" system. Now, all research is bought for the Research Points instead of credits. Research points you can earn from multiple sources: buying them for credits, surviving waves with low levels of cataclysm, and defeating bosses.
- Cataclysm indicator in Research Panel now shows individual levels and is split into 3 stages - at the first stage, you earn 2 Research Points per wave, at the second stage, only 1 per wave, at the third stage, none.
- Added 2 new research upgrades for upgrading temperature-changing towers.
- Added a new tower called "Reflector" used to protect a small range of other towers from the effects of radiation. But this tower has a hidden cost...
- Completely reworked research upgrades. Now, to protect yourself from radiation, you will have to pay a subscription to your researchers in the form of Research Points, or take a risk that might resolve all your problems or create a new one. For cataclysm, I added a lot of new research split into 2 paths - either you want to completely get rid of it or you want to learn using it as a tool.
- [WIP] I'm working on another tower right now, with a huge amount of damage that it can increase even more using radiation, but of course, there will be downsides... More details later.
- [WIP] I'm gradually changing the "Cataclysm" system to the "Pollution" system. More details later.
"Stats for Nerds" addition
- Added new type of tooltip for displaying tower stats - now, apart from name and description, the tooltip also shows damage, fire rate, range of a tower, and other important stats, while visually still fitting the atmosphere.
- Added display of actual damage, fire rate, and range of a selected tower in Tower Info Panel (that panel that pops up when you click on a placed tower).
- Added visualization of changes to damage, fire rate, and range of a tower when hovering over an upgrade or evolution.
- Added icons to the tower cards in the shop representing where you can place that tower.
- Added info on where you can place the selected tower to the Evolutions screen.
- [WIP] Gradually adding to all descriptions the actual change to the tower after evolution, instead of abstract brief descriptions.
Smooth Immersion ensurement
- Made tutorial "skipable" so you now don't need to read it all if you don't want to (but it's still recommended).
- Added "hint" buttons to some places that might be difficult to understand for new players, which will bring them to the relevant article in the guidebook.
- Added new articles and expanded existing ones in the guidebook (Which can be found in the pause menu).
- Added new pop-up panel to the tutorial explaining the abilities of some enemies.
- Added "Open Research Panel" button to the warning messages about environment conditions.
First Glance polishing
- Added flying spaceship to the background of main menu (Which is actually pretty fun to watch, you should definitely spend your whole day watching it).
- Added titles to the main menu buttons so you can understand where each of them leads, with the option to disable them if you don't like them.
- Added Qubicks logo to the main menu with adjusted style for minimalism.
- Made sandstorm particles in the main menu heavier and slower, which helped add more depth to the main menu design.
Fixed Bugs
- Fixed bug in the level selector screen where planets didn't change their names after switching them.
- Fixed bug with incorrectly displayed text in some places.
- Fixed incorrect/inconsistent localizations in some places.
- Fixed bug when a submarine wasn't destroyed after the water below it was evaporated.
- Fixed incorrect/inconsistent colliders of towers.
- Fixed bug with infinite cycle when it was raining and the temperature was at max (Which made water evaporate and fill in again constantly).
- Increased audio limit, which should fix the issue with sounds fading away at high game speeds.
- Fixed bug when sandstorm didn't destroy some types of towers.
- Fixed all related bugs to the explosive bullets - made them actually reach their target every time at full explosion range.
- Fixed visual bug when cannon shot its first round before rotating to the enemy.
- Fixed bug when you had opened the Tower Details panel, and if you selected a tower to place, the Tower Details panel would block the placement buttons.
- Fixed bug when resurrected enemies weren't targeted properly.
- Fixed visual bug when barricades didn't rotate to the right angle right from the start.
- Fixed bug with flying submarines.
- Fixed bug when you are placing a tower and try to move the camera position, the tower is moved to the position of the cursor.
- Made the camera rotation to rotate around the cursor point, not around the center of the level.
- Fixed bug when, in some cases, arrows from the guidebook disappeared.
- Other minor improvements.
