How to Fight in Fablelight (Work in Progress)
Fablelight is built on a simple idea:
Easy to pick up. Hard to put down.
At its core, the game uses a 4-button system, designed to feel familiar to fighting game players while still being approachable for newcomers.
🎮 Basic Controls
Movement is exactly what you’d expect:
Move left and right
Jump and Super Jump
Crouch
Dash (yes, even in the air)
Hold back to block
If you’ve ever played a traditional 2D fighter, you’ll feel right at home.
🕹️ The 4-Button System
Each character uses four main buttons:
Light Attack – Fast, safe, great for starting combos
Medium Attack – Balanced option with solid range
Heavy Attack – Slower, but hits hard
Unique Attack – This is where each character breaks the rules
That last one is the key.
Instead of every character sharing the same structure, the Unique Attack defines their identity.
⚔️ Character Examples
Rojas
Her Unique Attack is a Launcher, letting her pop enemies into the air and extend combos.
Granny Boom
Her Unique Attack gives her access to Bombs, letting her control space and create chaos.
Krog
His Unique Attack is a Charge Crush, a powerful armored move you can charge by holding and even cancel into movement to extend cobos and make any attack safe.
💡 Why This System?
Most fighting games give every character the same structure.
Fablelight doesn’t.
Instead, each character bends the system around them.
You’re not just learning “the game” you’re learning how that character fights.
For example:
Granny
Light Attack -> Melee Attack
Medium Attack -> Handguns
Heavy Attack -> Rifles
Unique Attack -> Bombs
⚠️ Still in Development
This system is actively evolving through playtests.
Every event, every match, every new player helps refine:
How the controls feel
How easy it is to understand
How deep the mechanics can go
If you’ve played the game at a recent event, what you experienced is part of that process.
More updates (and refinements) are coming soon.
