It's been a hectic few days since Early Access Release and many issues have been uncovered thanks to feedback from players which I really appreciate. New ideas have also been passed around on our Discord which I am working hard to implement. Thanks to everyone on there for being so supportive of this project, it's still early days but and there is a lot to improve upon before full release.
Unfortunately Fable Grove is getting a rather large amount of negative feedback through reviews for being a clicker game which incorporates marketplace items. I understand why this is the case; many Steam users are tired of seeing auto clicker games which have seemingly no gameplay and target the marketplace as a source of quick-win money. All I can do is continue developing Fable Grove to the point where it clearly distinguishes itself from others in the same category. I hope you all have the patience to see this unfold.
With that being said, here are the list of changes implemented for this update. Any new features added will have a brief rationale attached just so I can explain why I've chosen to implement them.
New Features
Buddy System Alpha
Clicking one of your Shiny Monsters in your MonLog will now summon it as a Buddy! Your buddy will move around the screen, click monsters if it can reach them, and rest once it runs out of energy (the energy is displayed on the new bar on the left). Different rarity monsters have different stats, for example Legendary monsters move faster and click faster.
Your Buddy also levels up, increasing it's movement speed (up to a cap of 400), click speed (up to a cap of 0.3 per second) and maximum energy (up to a cap of 100). Each Monster in your MonLog will have its own set of stats, so you have to level each one up.
Rationale: Clicker games with Steam Marketplace items don't tend to have a use for the Marketplace items, causing upset. This is the first set of changes in place to actually give your Shiny Monsters a use in game. More are on their way. I don't want players to want to trade or sell their favourite Shinies, they should be kept and used in game.
Removed Intro & Added Title Screen
One of the most upvoted reviews on our Early Access Release so far is "Even the intro made me angry.", so I've taken that feedback on board and added a Title Screen to replace the old intro. Monsters peek around the edge, and I've also included a Discord button so more players can hop in and give their suggestions for improvements. Hopefully, xRaiden, this change makes you feel less angry? :) (I'm joking, despite the bluntness of your review, I agree with you that it needed to change)
Settings will be added to the Title Screen as soon as I have finished my Screen Resolution changes (currently encountering a number of bugs with this so held it back for this update)
Bug Fixes
- Notifications no longer stop you from clicking monsters! Great spot from our Discord members and a really frustrating one I'm sure that has been fixed.
- Fixed Tooltips not disappearing in certain circumstances. They should now properly appear and disappear.
- Added a fix for certain achievements not activating
Please drop by our Discord if you encounter any issues or bugs, or if you just want to drop by to recommend a feature, I'm extremely active on there and open to all ideas! Thanks.
