We are delighted to announce that Hidden Memories of The Gardens Between will launch August 7th, 2025!
When we first created The Gardens Between, it was a love letter to the friendships we cherished in our childhood, the adventures that shaped us, and the bonds that defined us. Seven years later, with our own children experiencing their own bittersweet friendships, the game has taken on a profound new meaning. Hidden Memories of The Gardens Between, our expansive VR edition reflects this deeper, more personal exploration.
A brand-new addition to our story is Arina’s diary. Introduced for the first time in Hidden Memories, the diary began as a gift from her dad when they moved house: a blank canvas to capture a new chapter of life. Soon, it grew beyond Arina alone. After meeting her new neighbor, Frendt, the diary became their shared record of adventures, secrets, and discoveries. By the end of this expanded journey, the diary symbolizes the powerful and fleeting moments of childhood friendships—the kind we remember forever, even after goodbyes.
Creating the diary was deeply personal for us. It’s filled not just with drawings, but with Arina’s moods, dreams, and emotions. Each page captures her evolving world, illuminated by Frendt’s friendship. We poured our own memories and our children’s current experiences into these pages, reflecting the intense feelings of joy, excitement, and heartache that accompany growing up and moving on.
A Story Retold
Gameplay in Hidden Memories also became a way to deeply connect players to Arina and Frendt with experiences only possible in VR. The diary isn't just static art—it’s interactive. Now you can physically hold objects that were once background details, each one infused with meaning and a story waiting to be uncovered. Remember the reckless joy of painting outside the lines, the thrill of inventing your own board games on rainy days, or deciphering secret codes at the museum? We’ve captured those moments, inviting you to relive childhood curiosity and creativity through immersive VR interactions. By stepping directly into these memories and living these experiences, you’ll not only understand Arina and Frendt better, but also rediscover parts of yourself, something uniquely achievable through the interactive nature of video games.
The puzzles we designed specifically for VR were a joy to create, allowing us to revisit and expand the original story like never before. Tactile interactions like assembling toys, digging for dinosaur bones, and crafting friendship bracelets place you directly in Arina and Frendt’s shoes, creating a uniquely emotional connection. It’s our hope that as you bend time and explore these surreal gardens, you’ll feel as close to their journey as we do.
Hidden Memories of The Gardens Between is more than a game—it’s a heartfelt tribute to the friendships that shape who we become. As developers and as parents, revisiting this story has been incredibly meaningful. It’s our way of honoring the powerful, fleeting connections of childhood that we now see mirrored in our own kids’ lives.
Complemented by Tim Shiel’s ambient soundtrack, Hidden Memories of The Gardens Between offers hours of meditative puzzle-solving in a vibrant, mesmerising world. The game represents a labor of love from our entire team, bringing together most of the original development team while welcoming new talent to expand this beloved story.
