Dear Players,
After the commanding presence of Guan Yu, this dev log shines the spotlight on a very different kind of fighter. Today, we're sharing the model development process for Xun Yu, Wei's most celebrated strategist.

【A Mind for Strategy, a Soul for Elegance】
When people think of Xun Yu, they picture a brilliant mind — a strategist of the highest order, whose counsel shaped the rise of Wei. But how do you bring that kind of character to life in a fighting game built around intense combat? Our answer was to move away from heavy armor entirely. Instead, we dressed him in a slim, elegant robe with light leather accents, capturing his composed, refined, and quietly agile presence on the arena floor.
【Costume & Details: The Look of a Scholar-Noble】
For his color palette and materials, we started with a clean white base, layered with deep crimson cloth and leather straps. From the design sheets, you'll notice his intricately crafted lotus-shaped metal hair crown, a warm jade pendant and short flute worn at the waist, and fine silver cloud-pattern embroidery along the lower hem of his robe — all working together to reflect Xun Yu's noble bloodline and deep scholarly bearing.

【Combat Movement: Still as Water, Swift as Lightning】
A strategist fights differently from a warrior. For his combat stance, we equipped Xun Yu with a bamboo-joint steel whip — a weapon that suits his character perfectly. Through 2D movement simulation, the team refined his battle-ready pose repeatedly, ensuring the flow of his long hair and the natural sway of his wide sleeves feel dynamic and alive. More importantly, we wanted to convey his fighting philosophy: overcoming brute force with precision and ease — the mark of a true grandmaster — while meeting the visual demands of a fighting game.

【3D Sculpting: Bringing the Model to Life】
In the 3D high-poly sculpting phase, the team focused on the natural draping folds where layers of cloth overlap, the realistic texture of leather buckles, and the detailed 3D carvings on the jade pendant and flute. Every piece of sculpted data was built with one goal in mind: ensuring that this Wei strategist appears as vivid and alive as possible when he finally steps into the arena.
We hope this look at a very different type of fighter gives you a feel for the variety in our character roster! Stay tuned to Kingdom Heroes: Arena — see you in the next dev log!
