Dear Players,
Continuing from our previous character log on Xiahou Yuan, this time we're sharing the model development log for Guan Yu, the legendary general of Shu State

【Unmatched Loyalty, Unrivaled Might】
In the stories of the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu was celebrated for his unmatched loyalty and overwhelming martial prowess. We wanted to bring that same commanding presence and aura of invincibility to the fighting arena. To capture his iconic image, we preserved his legendary long beard and the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, while continuing to refine the interplay between flowing cloth and heavy armor across his silhouette.
【Visual Design: Defining Equipment and Materials】
Starting from the visual design phase, Guan Yu's overall appearance is built around his classic green color scheme, paired with darkened armor carrying a metallic sheen and gold trimming — projecting the image of a warrior who is both composed and untouchable. Using an equipment breakdown illustration, we reviewed the layering of his dragon-shaped shoulder guards, beast-head waist armor, and leg plates. The flowing cape and the intricate gold dragon embroidery along the lower hem further reinforce his character identity.

【Combat Stance Concept: Reviewing Movement】
Guan Yu is known for his calm, restrained presence that can erupt into wide, sweeping strikes of pure dominance. We wanted his movements to reflect that — carrying an air of authority while showcasing the sheer destructive power of his polearm. Once the base design was finalized, we created a combat stance concept illustration — a 2D simulation of Guan Yu gripping the Green Dragon Crescent Blade with both hands in a battle-ready pose. This allowed us to evaluate his center of gravity, the dynamic movement of his iconic long beard, and whether the red tassel on his weapon and his green battle robe convey the right sense of power while fitting the camera perspective of a fighting game.

【3D High-Poly Model: Detailing the Model】
With the 2D design confirmed, we moved into the 3D high-poly sculpting phase, translating the design into a highly detailed three-dimensional model. This includes the intricate dragon head sculpt on his left shoulder, the beast-face patterns on his abdominal armor, and the rope knots and plating structure beneath his battle robe — all fully built out as 3D data at this stage. This sets the foundation for in-engine development, ensuring that the Saint of War arrives on the arena floor with full commanding presence.

We'll continue sharing more character development updates — stay tuned!
