After a great deal more work, we think that the new submarine is working well enough to be tested! However, as mentioned in the last announcement post, this required changes in essentially every aspect of our game. We definitely anticipate bugs and have caught/fixed LOADS already. If you want to give all of the new update's content a test, opt into the beta on Steam!
So what in all is new? Well, we would actually like for you guys to discover a lot of that for yourselves before we post the full update text! Needless to say there is quite a bit of cool new stuff to check out!
How to opt into the beta branch:
1. Go to your Steam library
2. Right-click our game
3. Click "Properties"
4. Click on the "Betas" tab
5. Change from "default" to "beta"
We really really appreciate our community's help in reporting bugs and balance feedback in the past. If you try the beta, please help us out by going into the comments section below the announcement and reporting your findings on:
- Bugs in the new submarine
- Bugs in the old submarine
- Balance with the new submarine
- Late-game balance (do enemies still fail to spawn after going through the full game loop?)
For the technically savvy folks, here are some additional things which we have changed but need help testing:
- Connection success rates when more than one network adapter is active on your computer (i.e. having your WiFi adapter AND Hamachi on at the same time)
- Cheating (yes, there are cheating programs out there and we have tried to build a rudimentary little system to detect usage of cheat software)
Player of the Month
As always, choosing a single player to highlight as our Player of the Month was a challenge; with our community growing larger each day, we get the opportunity to encounter more incredible feedback, more support, and more passion for helping the community's continued growth! This month's player has contributed to each of those lovely pillars, having gone quite the extra mile over the past month in their support/assistance for helping make Deeper's official Discord Channel more organized and more useful for players looking for new crews to join up with. Our Player of the Month is Wrzlprnft!
Wrzlprnft has been incredibly patient and helpful with us over the past while as he's back-and-forthed about antivirus problems on the forums, created his own workarounds for certain problems (like the current lack of cloud saving) and sharing his findings with others, and offering his help as an Admin on the We Need To Go Deeper Discord to help organize the channels better, weed out the spammers, rude dudes, and general trolls over there, helping make the Discord the cool place to chill and chat that it is today.
That's not to mention of course, the entire Discord Bot that Wrzlprnft took it upon himself to program from scratch to help out the Crew Recruitment shenanigans going on in the Discord! (Of which he made a while back but that we only recently got a chance to implement properly, sorry about that y'all!) The bot is called Crew Bot, and he hooks people up to voice channels via simple commands to help streamline the crew searching process!
