Greetings, Jakub @TeamEpikugemu here.
Some time has passed since Definitive Edition dropped, and I'm happy to say that reception of it has been quite positive for what it does. I'd also like to announce that this remake has been a side-project of mine while something else has been in on-and-off development. I hereby would like to say, a sequel has been in the works since the original game released mid-2024. We don't know yet when it'll release, or even IF it will release, considering life's been getting in the way time and time again.
Foremost however, I'd like to thank for the recent reviews that provided some more constructive criticism of the game and it's flaws - I'm looking forward to seeing more of those in the near future as I continue to try and convince Krzysztof that making just another Dragon Quest clone won't do - He is absolutely aware of that. Regardless, quite a bit of the classic DQ DNA is here to stay, but we'll be moving away from it as development goes on.
The biggest gripe of the first Epic Quest - one that the Definitive Edition couldn't really do much about, was the plot. It was minimal and while I attempted some world building, I ultimately couldn't stray too far from the original one in that regard. That changes now: Epic Quest II will feature a more interesting story focusing on taking back the world piece by piece from one man's tyrannical grip.
And now here's the other important matter: Dungeons. While I attempted to make those more interesting in the Definitive Edition, I wasn't very experienced in designing labyrinths at the time. I've been playing more JRPG games and Dungeon Crawlers these days, using their dungeons as a case study and I'd like for the two of us to apply those learnings in practice, in order to make better, more engaging dungeons that would test the player's thinking rather than just how fast they can mash one button to get through battles... The key system from DE will most likely be here to stay, but will be reworked, so it doesn't feel like a waste of the player's time.
What other changes come? Here's where I'd like to get your input. What changes would you like to see in the sequel? Comment below. I'd like to make this second attempt count for all its worth. Expect further information regarding the sequel in the near future, as well as a Demo in the form of the Beta release (hopefully)
And yes - there will be a run button now. Disabling it while making DE was just sadistic on my part. Sorry for that.
