Hello, Soul Seekers! 👋
Welcome back to another Into the Fire devlog!
First of all, we'd like to thank you for the amazing response to our previous devlogs. Seeing so many positive reactions has been incredibly motivating for the whole team.
Today, we'd like to take a step back and answer a simple yet important question:
What should a successful expedition actually look like in Into the Fire?
Because surviving a volcanic catastrophe isn't just about making it out alive. It's also about preparation, decision-making, and knowing what truly matters when everything around you is falling apart. Without further ado, let's roll! 🔥
How Should Your Expedition Look Like?
One of the core ideas behind our game is combining the tension of extraction games with meaningful survival mechanics. Every expedition is about more than simply collecting loot and reaching the extraction point. It's about who and what you bring back to your Camp.
And obviously the key to the successful return is proper preparation because in Into the Fire the volcano is constantly changing the world around you. Each run asks you one simple, yet really important question:
Can you predict the unpredictable?
The Camp
Every expedition begins here. Your Camp isn't just a menu between missions. It's a living place that grows alongside your journey.
This is where you'll meet the people you've rescued, hear their stories around the campfire, and slowly rebuild a community after the catastrophe.
As your community grows, so does your Camp, but also your responsibilities.
New buildings unlock new crafting possibilities, stronger equipment, better tools, and new ways to prepare for future expeditions.
Every improvement you make before leaving the Camp directly affects your chances of survival once you're back in the field.
On the other hand, the bigger the community is, the more needs it will require to function properly.
Once you're ready...It's time to head back into the fire.
The Loot
Before every expedition, you should ask yourself one important question: What is your objective this time?
Are you looking for valuable resources? Or are you risking everything to save as many survivors as possible? Or maybe both?
The island is divided into multiple districts, each offering different resources, opportunities, and dangers. Exploring new locations rewards curious players with unique crafting materials, hidden supplies, and valuable discoveries.
But that is not the end of surprises when it comes to exploration in our game.
Loot in Into The Fire is also about uncertainty.
You never know exactly what you'll discover when entering an abandoned building. It might be a valuable resource, a weapon, someone's personal belonging, or even a note or symbol that tells you something about the world before the catastrophe.
That's part of what makes exploration exciting. You don't know what you'll find, or whether what you discover will be more valuable than everything you're already carrying.
THE QUESTS
Hidden throughout the map are optional side activities and locations waiting to be discovered. Some buildings require careful exploration before you even find the entrance. A seemingly abandoned drugstore, for example, may hide valuable supplies that will aid both you and the people you have rescued from a catastrophe.
Of course, every reward comes with a cost.
A backpack filled with resources means extra weight. Extra weight means slower movement. And slower movement can make the difference between rescuing someone... or arriving just a few seconds too late.
Sometimes, bringing home one more item means leaving someone behind.
The People
At the heart of Into The Fire are the people you choose to save. And sometimes you have to accept the fact that you simply can't save everyone. Who and what you carry back to your Camp totally relies on your priorities. What do people in the Camp need the most? Do I have enough resources to bring back home another survivor?
The same philosophy applies to animals you encounter throughout your journey. Every life you save contributes to the future of your Camp in its own way. In our game, survivors are the reason you keep coming back.
The Animals
Not every rescue ends with saving a person.
Scattered across the island are animals struggling to survive the volcanic catastrophe. Some are frightened, some are injured, and all of them need someone willing to take the risk.
Bringing them back to your Camp isn't just a kind gesture. They become part of your growing community, making every expedition feel a little more alive.
But every life you save comes with responsibility.
Every new companion needs food, water, shelter, and a place in your Camp. As your community grows, so do the challenges of keeping everyone alive. Sometimes, the hardest decision isn't whether you can save another life... it's whether you can provide for it afterward.
