Development Update 3
A quick update on being a solo dev
With this game being a solo project, development times are reliant on me. This means that I have to balance creating this game around my university work and my full time work at Game/Gamestop.
So I'm happy to say that I've finished my semester of university! This should mean that development picks up a bit and that I'll be able to share more updates. Either way, thank you for the continued support.
How I'll be posting updates from now on
Instead of posting "week 3/4/5 development update" I'll now instead post updates like this "development update 3 - added new stuff" this allows me to not have to post every single week and to focus on development, only posting when I have something cool to show off.
Voice lines & Subtitles
Recently I was able to record and then edit some voice lines to test for the game! These are not final and the dialogue may change. How it works is I record myself speaking in audacity and then change the EQ, cut down the audio and do a bunch of checks to make sure there is no random background noise. (Recording these from my bedroom)
After adding voice lines I decided it would be a good idea to add subtitles as it would make it easier for everyone to understand what I'm saying, especially people not accustomed to an Irish accent.
These are easy enough to implement but depending on how many voice lines the game may have, it could end up being very time consuming.
Objective Markers
While getting the game ready for a playable demo, I realised that players are going to have a hard time figuring out exactly where to go when playing the game, so I've added objective markers. The player should only ever have one at a time and it will guide them to a location. e.g. at the start of the game, the player will have an objective marker that brings them to the operations building.
As always there have been improvements in the scripting of the game as well as the overall feel of some of the mechanics, a noteworthy improvement is the ability to now "enhance" text whenever a player picks up a note, this will allow players who have a hard time reading the text, the ability to read it in a cleaner format.
That's it from me for now, thanks for reading!
