Hello H-Hour Community!
I am excited to report that the team confirmed to me this morning that they have a working build of H-Hour in UE4 engine 4.11.2 now. There are still a few effects of the migration to be handled yet but they are confident they can have a test build for the dev testers by the end of this week.
The team has coded and packaged a new 4.11.2 version of the Workshop Editor for testing purposes so we will see results of those tests soon.
As of now, the game builds, deploys and is stable on both server and client. Also happy to report that they have not been able to replicate the existing public Extraction game mode crash nor the DirectX Audio crash in this upgraded version of the game. The crash fix will be further confirmed once we get our testers involved later this week.
As I mentioned last week, engine upgrades break things. I thought I would share a few of the challenges that the team faced and CONQUERED this past week:
- Crash-- did we crash? Restart—that map worked, crash. Oh dang travel errors/assertion failures—crash.
- Did you hear a footstep, I didn’t hear a footstep.
- Where’s the bomb? Oh look, it’s 10 feet in the air. Nope, this one is underground.
- What happened to night vision?
- Where’s lobby gone?
- I know I shot that wall/building/fence but where are the bullet holes?
- What is that showing behind all the menu screens? Aww, kind of looks interesting, huh.
- Oh, oh, network failure.
- Woah why is that bush/tree/texture popping/tearing like that?
- Why can’t I see what I typed in that box? Oh the font is white and the background is white, dang.
- Tina just morphed into 2, WAT!
- I shot the water, nothing, no sound, no splash. Arggh.
- OMG what happened to grenade arc, looks like a hundred lines leading nowhere.
- Did we lose Sismis and Temple somewhere? Don’t tell Russ!
- Why are the voiceovers so low and the ambience so loud? What did you say, I can’t hear over that darn wind.
Other activities completed this past week include:
What’s Ahead?
- The team will continue to iron out the last few bugs brought on by migration so they can get a test build ready.
- Our dev testers who map will test the new Workshop editor.
- On the investor/partner search front, we conducted another call last week with the same group that has been interested for quite some time with H-Hour. They are sending additional information to us today for a deeper look under the H-Hour hood. We’re hopeful it will be a good fit.
- We also have a call scheduled for tomorrow, thanks to an amazing H-Hour volunteer, with some folks who are also interested in seeing the Studio and H-Hour succeed.
Thanks everyone for your continued patience as we finalize our migration to the new engine. Big things will be coming your way soon as a result of that move. Also, a special thanks to all those who are helping to keep the game moving forward in a positive light. Keep voting on Trello, playing on the servers, giving us and the workshop map creator’s feedback. All of your efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
More next Monday…..
