Hello H-Hour Community!
Last week we saw a patch and a hotfix released. After 5 days of community play with no assertion failures, we can confidently say that long term bug is finally resolved.
For those not aware, finding the root cause of this Extraction assertion bug that surfaced in November 2015 was problematic as it was originally sporadic and then as Windows 10 became more active, was masked by other failures in the Microsoft audio sdk system. This included several XAudio_2 sound engine bugs. Microsoft did investigate this XAudio_2 assertion failure as it was affecting a large number of games and software applications that used their DirectX sound engines at the time. This resulted in a new DirectX sdk but that upgrade only migrated to the UE4 engine in their 4.11 full release on March 31, 2016. The recent uptick in upgrades to Windows 10 further destabilized the assertion bug and was the main driver behind our recent migration to UE4 - 4.11.2. With the X_Audio bugs resolved and the community’s assistance in submitting dump and log files, we successfully tracked down the final bug that existed in the audio system and created a fix. Thank you to everyone who submitted logs and dump files to help us put this bad boy down.
Anyone interested in more details on what other content went into last week’s releases can find the Patch and Hotfix notes at the provided links.
What’s Ahead?
- The team has begun work on creating the new workshop app in 4.11.2 for the community mappers. We’re anticipating a multi-week work effort for this one as development encompasses the Editor, testing to validate it works as anticipated, an update to the Uploader to accommodate any changes brought about by the new engine, along with any needed revisions to our guide to reflect the new Editor engine version.
- On the investor front… We’re still talking and running the football down the field. What does that mean? Well we haven’t taken a step back since we started searching and continue to be hopeful for the future. Continue playing, testing, and spreading the word. People are watching and enjoy the positivity surrounding this title.
I want to send out a big thank you to our H-Hour community for helping out in bug reporting and to our volunteers for their never ending commitment in supporting the community and H-Hour.
More next Monday…..
