BERLIN, GERMANY, August 8, 2024 - Indifferent Penguin, a Berlin-based solo game developer, is calling for dedicated gamers to join the open beta of its upcoming top-down action game, Tackle for Loss. In this game, players delve into the gritty underbelly of 1980s American Football. Inspired by the likes of Hotline Miami, Tackle for Loss blends violent combat, a captivating narrative, and dark pixel art aesthetics.

About the game:
Tackle for Loss is a 2D top-down action game that puts you in the shoes of a former American football pro. Violent combat, a captivating narrative, and dark pixel art combine to create a pumped-up experience, inspired by the likes of Hotline Miami. The player is haunted by the lingering effects of concussions and driven by a desperate mission to save a loved one. Utilizing his unique set of football skills, players will navigate a gritty underworld, battling enemies and unraveling a conspiracy in the process.
Rapidly eliminating enemies extends combo chains and increases score multipliers, rewarding players for aggressive and strategic gameplay. Unique moves and attacks can be unlocked through progression. By experimenting with a variety of skills and perks, players can develop and refine a variety of combat styles.
In its core, Tackle for Loss is a game about the brutal beauty of football, but it also inadvertently shines a spotlight on the darker side of the sport. By immersing players in the life of a former player struggling with the long-term consequences of his career, the game offers a glimpse into the realities of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
"I wanted to create a game that captured the raw energy and violence of American football, but from a completely different angle," said Daniel Wichterich, the developer behind Indifferent Penguin. "Tackle for Loss is my attempt to explore the darker side of the sport, while still delivering the adrenaline-pumping action that gamers crave."
"While the football simulation genre is dominated by massive titles, I believe there’s a gap in the market for a game that takes the core elements of the sport and reimagines them in a fresh and exciting way," Wichterich continued. "Tackle for Loss aims to fill that void."
Tackle for Loss is currently in development, targeting a late 2025 release on Windows PC. The game has received funding from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, a German film and media funding agency. The game is available to wishlist on Steam now.
