Greetings Goo players, new and old!
We at Grey Box are all incredibly excited to be a part of the Steam Summer Sale and can't wait to see everyone in-game. If you're just discovering Grey Goo, thank you so much for picking it up. There's never been a better time to hop into this new RTS. Whether you're just joining us on Ecosystem Nine or coming back for the summer, here's a recap of what we have been up to since the game's launch.
The Dawn of a New RTS
Grey Goo launched in early 2015 to coincide with PAX South. Being mega-fans of RTS games, we wanted to deliver a game that felt old-school and classic while still being a competitor in the 2015 gaming scene. Our goal was to tell a compelling story, and to be a part of the real-time strategy conversation. With Grey Goo, we feel we're off to an excellent start toward these goals. And with the awesome content we've released so far (and more amazing things yet to come) we're always improving on what it is to be an RTS game.
New Features Added!
We have been steadily improving the game with updates and balance patches. Last week's game update was our biggest yet, adding a host of new multiplayer features like Observer and Replay modes, upgrading our matchmaking system to Dedicated Servers, and adding our first DLC mini-campaign!
In this game update, we have made Grey Goo friendlier to competitive players and those looking to cast or livestream the game. Observer Mode and Replays allows you to watch matches live and review your gameplay in order to improve. A new tab in the Multiplayer Menu highlights current Twitch broadcasts of Grey Goo, ensuring you're always plugged into the action. And now, with Dedicated Servers in place, multiplayer matches are buttery smooth. With these features added to the game it's quicker to find a match, watch friends play, or study your past games.

Balancing To Maximize Fun
In addition to new features, we've improved much of the balance in Grey Goo. Air combat in particular, which we've always felt could use more love, is now a viable strategy for Beta and Human factions. The Goo faction got a retooling of its economic collection rates, forcing commanders to plan out where Mother Goo are headed to maximize catalyst digestion.
If you've stepped away from Grey Goo in the past, we highly encourage you to hop in and see what we've tweaked. We guarantee you'll run into fewer walls and a more balanced, fun experience.
A New Story Emerges
Telling a compelling story in a rich sci-fi universe has been at the forefront of Grey Goo's development ideology, and we've built on that with the Emergence DLC.
We always felt there was more to say with Singleton's story in Grey Goo, and why leave out a great story just because its an RTS game? In Grey Goo, we hold our single player campaign to the highest standard, and with Emergence we hope to build on that captivating narrative.
An ally turned enemy, Singleton's journey remains a mystery to his former companions. But what happened to cause such a terrible turn? This 3 mission mini-campaign follows the events of Singleton immediately after a catastrophic explosion on Ecosystem Nine and reveals the Goo's backstory to discover its true intentions and plan for the galaxy. Everyone who purchased Grey Goo before June 11th was granted a copy of Emergence for FREE, so check it out and let us know what you think!

Terrain Editor Improvements
We've also expanded our support for Custom Maps. Our community of mapmakers have been pumping out more beautifully-crafted battlegrounds than our units know what to do with. Now, with the ability to import custom assets into their creations, we're excited to see what the future of Grey Goo's Steam Workshop holds.
For the full step-by-step process on adding your own game objects, check out our revised documentation.
Maps Galore
We know maps are an important part of keeping an RTS fresh and interesting. That's why 9 new maps were added to the game! A collaborative effort between Petroglyph and Grey Box, Map Pack 1 was made to compliment the existing pool by bringing new, experimental battlefields to unranked play for FREE!
We recently added a few of these maps to the ranked pool in-game, so be on the look out!
