A small update has been added to the demo:
Hotfix 0.5.2
Fixes:
Numerous small fixes to geometry, colliders, and animations.
Fixes several terrain issues with the watcher, plugging holes and fixing tearing.
Fix for shore waves causing holes in the water, or visual distortions.
Changes:
Majorly overhauled player controller. Shouldn't feel too different, but the backend has been altered to decouple player movement from the ship's rigidbody, allowing smoother motion overall, and less jitter or sliding. Please be aware that due to the scope of this change, some unintended issues may be present.
Reduced headbob by around 60%.
Additionally, I've posted a new video going over the changes and updates to the upcoming junk rigged ships.
It's been a long time since I've focused on mechanics surrounding junk rigs. They had fallen behind after all the updates and feedback early in the demo -- and a big progress blocker has been updating the logic and controls of the rig to the newer aerodynamic model used for the lateen sails. It's finally time to showcase a bit of how this is coming along.
Additionally I've done a detail pass on the Caelean Junk, adding new details and effects. All ships will now see more complex zoned audio as well, further distinguishing exterior and interior spaces.
Control over battened sails is now much more controllable. Moving the base rope functions similarly to how it does for the lateen rig, but controlling length is now a two stage process. Mousewheel controls length as it does for lateens, but once the rope is fully tight, it will move to controlling the lines to each batten, essentially allowing you to allow the rig to be more or less rigid. This is especially useful if you want to sail laterally or reverse.
As they are similar in size, the Caelean junk is easy to compare to the Xebec. The aim is for the Junk to be somewhat slower, but more seaworthy and able to carry larger loads. The hull is split by multiple bulkheads as with historic junks, though not nearly as many as that would make traversal a bit annoying.
