Today, we unveiled Son of Thanjai to the world, our next game, a cinematic action-adventure set in 11th Century Southern India. If you’ve just discovered the game–welcome. If you’ve been following us from our Unsung Empires days, thank you for sticking with us.
World, Meet Rajendra Chola
Son of Thanjai, for the lack of a better phrasing, is an experience in itself. It’s a story about power, duty, and legacy, set during one of the most extraordinary–yet overlooked–eras in history: the Chola dynasty.
You play as a young king, Rajendra Chola, caught between destiny and duty. This is the emotional journey of a man who had greatness thrust upon him; someone who carries the weight of his father’s legacy and must carve his own path in a changing world.
The Premise
3 years after his conquest of Sri Vijaya, a triumphant Rajendra Chola returns home. But...
Thanjavur is no longer the empire he left behind. Whispers of unrest echo through its temples and streets. Allies seem uncertain; enemies hide in plain sight; foreign saboteurs inch closer to his throne.
Crush your enemies, protect your people, and immerse yourself in 11th-century South India in this cinematic action-adventure epic.
Combat that Dances and Strikes
At its heart, Son of Thanjai is built around the elegance and lethality of the Surulvaal, a flexible, whip-like sword, rooted in the South Indian martial art of Kalari.
This weapon isn’t just for combat; it’s an extension of the Rajendra’ identity: coiled and restrained at rest, and explosive and devastating when unleashed.
And while its combat can be dazzling and fierce, sometimes the sharpest blade is the one that stays hidden.
Stealth mechanics let you dismantle enemy strongholds with precision, whether through quiet takedowns, disguised infiltration, or methodical interrogation. Patience, planning, and precision are rewarded as much as brute force.
A World Steeped in Culture
From temple celebrations to street performances, from traditional sporting activities to bustling marketplaces–Son of Thanjai invites you to soak it all in and truly live in the world of the Cholas.
We’ve strived to make it as authentic as possible. The festivals you witness, the meals you share, the songs you overhear, they’re woven into the narrative itself, not simply layered on top. They’re the threads that bind the world together and reveal the beliefs, ambitions, and everyday lives of its people.
