Hello!
I'm Tony, back again after a wee bit of a break. I mentioned in December that we've been quiet because some exciting things have been going on behind the scenes - and now I can finally talk about them!
Next Fest
First up, Into the Restless Ruins is going to be in the Steam Next Fest this February with a new demo for you to check out! The demo is from the latest version of the game and showcases lots of the things we've been working on adding and improving since the last one - with many of these coming from direct feedback we received from you, our players (thank you!) There are too many changes to list, but some big ones are mid-run saving, randomly placed obstacles, a new boss fight, Boon cards as a powerful reward when you claim a seal (they're like anti-Curses) and a new soundtrack by Scottish synth wave artist Russel Nash.
Slam your eyeballs against the brand-new trailer and grab the demo right now to get a first glimpse of this gripping roguelike experience.
A Publisher!
You might have spotted this already if you've been very eagle-eyed when checking out the Steam page recently, but Into the Restless Ruins has a publisher! We're super proud and excited to announce the partnership with Wales Interactive to bring our roguelike deckbuilder to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in Spring 2025. Here's some quotes from the press release...
This collaboration between two award-winning studios from Wales and Scotland unites our passion for innovative game design and rich storytelling. Together, we’re celebrating our shared cultural heritage—highlighting voices and traditions rarely represented in video games.
“Into the Restless Ruins delivers a distinctive gameplay experience, letting players construct their own dungeon using a deck of cards that represent rooms, corridors, and unique features. This blend of deckbuilding and dungeon creation offers a fresh strategic challenge, and we’re excited for players across all platforms to dive into the depth and creativity it brings to every run,” says Tony Gowland, MD of Ant Workshop.
David Banner, co-founder of Wales Interactive, added, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Ant Workshop, a studio whose creative vision and dedication to storytelling shine through in Into the Restless Ruins. It’s exciting to highlight the creativity and rich folklore from both Wales and Scotland, bringing a fresh perspective to the global gaming community.”
So now you know why we've been a bit quiet - the game is racing towards being finished and we can't wait to hear what you think of the new demo which is live RIGHT NOW! Please check it out, and let your friends know. It might sound daft, but Next Fest is really important to indies, and the more people we can get the game in front of, the better we can make it.
Thanks again for your patience!
Cheers,
James, Rachel & Tony.
