A brief introduction of the game for those who might discover the title because of the Medieval Fest
Ancient Savo takes place in Finland, some time around 1000 - 1200 AD.
At that time the majority of Europe was living Medieval Times, characterized by the feudal society, and the church having a noticeable role and power. Meanwhile in Finland, the local people were still living as loosely organized tribes of farmer-hunter-gatherers. So, Ancient Savo offers you the medieval era technology, without the social hierarchy. The game is about people who want to live away from the humdrum of the bigger settlements, just living off the land in pristine woodlands. It is all about player vs. environment, where cold, hunger and accidents are the main enemy. There are no kings nor knights, you don't fight the other tribes to conquer and expand your territory. Your goal is just to keep your family line alive in a land where winters are long and cold, summers are short but intense, where you gather limonite to produce iron ore to forge metal tools.
Build a cabin, have kids and keep them warm and fed. Raise your offspring to adulthood and send them to start homesteads of their own. Craft tools and items, hunt animals for furs, and barter for goods.
At the moment of writing this the game is at version 0.9.16, which means that it is fully playable, has some minor bugs, and some feature still lacking. And future additions and improvements planned at least for a year to come. So, if you are into this kind of games, this is a good time to hop on board! All player feedback and suggestions are read with proper consideration.
Ancient Savo is like a younger sister to the rogue-like UnReal World. The game project was largely sparked by UnReal World players asking for marriage, offspring, passing your items and skills to your kids. So, Ancient Savo explores these themes of game-play, and aims to develop story lines which would span multiple generations in-game. To allow for longer time-spans Ancient Savo plays as a resource-management and planner game
