Hello everyone, Gronkins here with patch 0.4.7! The main focus of this update is the returning Rogue class and Legendary items! So, let’s just get right into it:
Returning class: The Rogue
In patch 0.4.7 the Rogue returns… again… With all new traits, synergies and abilities. The Rogue is squishier than the Warrior, but in turn boasts high damage with critical strikes and poisons and can deftly evade attacks. To unlock the Rogue you’ll need to defeat the boss of the second floor.
Game balance
As more classes get introduced into Dungeon Exiles, I need to account for differing power levels (especially at the start of the game). So, across the board, all non-boss enemies have had their damage reduced by roughly 5%-10%. The idea is that the earlier floors will be easier as you get your build off the ground, but later floors are intended to be quite difficult and will require a powerful build.
Game Mechanics
Shield
Shield has been slightly reworked in patch 0.4.7 and has been renamed to Energy Shield. Energy Shield is now represented as a light blue barrier that covers your health bar. When displaying your current Energy Shield it is added to your current health total. So for example, if you have 100 Maximum Health and you full health plus 50 Energy Shield it will be displayed as:
150/100
Lastly, you’ll no longer be able to exceed your Maximum Energy Shield through restoration effects. I believe this will make Energy Shield a more intuitive mechanic.
Overguard
You may be thinking that a change like that will be a large nerf to Warrior as they typically don’t have much Maximum Energy Shield and thus effects like Steelskin which grants shield will be significantly weaker. To address this issue a new mechanic called Overguard has been introduced which works similarly to how the old Shield system worked.
Overguard will protect both your Health and Energy Shield from damage until it is depleted. Also, it’s worth noting that Overguard has a maximum equal to your Maximum Health + Energy Shield. For example, if you had 100 Health and 100 Energy Shield, then you would be able to gain up to a maximum of 200 Overguard.
Certain effects that used to grant Shield (such as Steelskin) now grant Overguard.
Chaos Cards
The Lone Survivor has been renamed to the Survivor. The Survivor no longer grants -75 to Maximum Shield, and it no longer grants 15 Shield Regenerated per 5 seconds. The Survivor now grants 50% reduced Maximum Energy Shield, additionally, it now grants 1.5% of Maximum Health Regenerated per Second.
Items
Item tiers
To really lean into the fantasy of character-building and progression, item tiers have been introduced. Items that are found in shops have an item tier that increases as you descend floors, item tiers allow items to roll higher and higher stats. The idea is that as you progress further in the dungeon you’ll find better items which you allow your character to scale even harder.
Treasure Items
Epics
Crown of Celestial Insight no longer grants 15% Reduced Extra Damage taken from Critical Strikes. It now grants +12 to Maximum Energy Shield.
Aetheric Essence Stone no longer grants 10% Increased Cooldown Recovery Rate. It now grants +18 to Maximum Mana.
New: Evening Shroud. Gives +4 to Dexterity, +20 to Evasion and +12 to Maximum Health.
Legendaries
In patch 0.4.7 you’ll be able to find legendaries in treasure chests. Currently, they are a guaranteed spawn on floor 3. Legendaries are very powerful items that provide players with new avenues to scale their character.
Stats
Evasion (New)
It’s worth noting that Evading and Dodging a hit are identical mechanics-wise. Evading hit will still cause all On-Dodge effects to trigger and just for full clarity, if a hit is Dodged or Evaded it means that no damage is taken but also it will not trigger On-Hit effects for the enemy (such as lifesteal) but it will also not trigger When-Hit effects for the player (such as thorns).
Evasion and Dodge do not stack additively. Instead, if you fail to Evade an attack you’ll perform an additional Dodge roll to see if the attack is Dodged and visa-versa. Essentially if you have 50% chance to Evade and 50% chance to Dodge this does not equal 100% chance to avoid damage, instead with 50% Evasion and 50% Dodge your chance to avoid damage is roughly 75%.
Traits
Sentinel 4 no longer grants 8% of Maximum Health as Extra Shield. It instead grants 8% more Armour.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug that allowed level 4 abilities to show up when upgrading even if the base ability is at max level.
Misc
Fixed the names of certain upgraded abilities so they reflect their upgraded nature.
Closing Words
