It’s been some time since the last changes to Ranch Mayhem. Progress has been on hold because I have been working on a complete rewrite of the game engine. The old framework was too restrictive and prevented me from adding many of the features I envisioned. This rewrite will also address issues with the save system, which is currently non-functional. I want to use this post to answer some questions.
Why there has been no progress
Over the past year, there have been no visible updates to Ranch Mayhem because I’ve been rebuilding the entire game engine from scratch. The previous framework I used had limitations that made it very difficult to implement certain features I wanted to have in the game. In addition, I was not satisfied with the overall design and gameplay direction, so this rewrite is also an opportunity to refine the game’s core experience.
About the rewrite
The engine rewrite is a fresh start for the project. This is not a small adjustment, but a complete reimplementation of the underlying systems. The goal is to create a solid and flexible foundation that will allow for:
Improved performance and smoother gameplay
Easier addition of new features
A redesigned gameplay loop that is more engaging and rewarding
Current progress
I will be including a set of screenshots with this announcement to give you an idea of the current state of the game in the new engine. While it is still early in development, these images should provide a glimpse of what is coming.
Request for feedback
As this is a full rebuild, now is the ideal time for community input. I would appreciate feedback on:
Features you enjoyed in the previous version
Features or mechanics you would like to see improved or added
Any suggestions for making the game more enjoyable
Final thoughts
This rewrite is a significant undertaking, but it is essential for ensuring the long-term potential of the game.
