Hello everyone! We are very excited to give you a deeper look at the upcoming Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, a brand-new game in the legendary Thief series, coming later this year to Meta Quest.
Please check out our new gameplay trailer showing you more of the exciting gameplay features in the game:
In the trailer, you’ll see a wide range of tools and abilities in action: sneaking past guards or taking them down with your blackjack, precise pickpocketing and lockpicking, a variety of specialized arrows for every situation, and using glyph vision to uncover hidden secrets.
For many of us at Vertigo Games, the Thief series has been a long-time favorite. The idea of stepping into Garrett’s shoes, sneaking through dark alleys, picking locks, and staying hidden in the shadows evading guards, feels like it was meant for virtual reality. With Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, we wanted to preserve everything fans love about the series while making it truly immersive on Meta Quest.
That means using your hands to physically pick locks, peeking through the scope of your bow to line up a precise shot, and carefully pinching out a candle so you can slip past a guard unnoticed. Every action you take is grounded in VR, giving you a sense of presence that feels authentic to the world of Thief.
Thief wouldn’t be Thief without its iconic toolkit, and you’ll find plenty of fan favorites here. From the blackjack to the lockpick, and of course, the bow with its array of specialized arrows. In VR, each one takes on a new life. Knocking out a guard with your own swing of the blackjack, or carefully aiming a water arrow to extinguish a torch is not just gameplay, it’s an experience you feel in your hands.
We’ve also added some new twists that make the most of VR. For example, blowing out candles using the headset’s microphone, or climbing by physically moving your arms to scale walls, ladders, or pull yourself through an open window. And be careful: even the sound of eating an apple can alert a guard!
On behalf of everyone at Vertigo Games, Maze Theory, and Eidos-Montréal: thank you for your passion and support. We can’t wait for Quest players to step into the shadows and experience Thief in a way that’s never been possible before.
