Hey there everyone!
It's about time that I give you an update on what I've been working on for 1.0! I've been adding a lot to this update and I'm not going to fully share absolutely everything, but I should give you an update after a month of nothing.
Everything in this Update is a Work in Progress (WIP) and is not finalized.
World 4 - Sango
Sango is the final world in The Stickman which features much more difficult gameplay. For some of the levels, the parkour sections are based on moving platforms. When it's not activated it's in position 1 and when it's activated it moves to position 2. I did a lot of fun stuff with this and it makes the movement pretty difficult.
Something I messed with in this world was a stormy environment. I got a number of things working:
Rain Falls from the sky (harder than it seems when the player is moving so fast)
Little Rain Puddles from impact on the floor
Rain Drops on the sides of models
Lightning skybox
All of these things together makes the world look really good
This is what I'm currently working on so I have no idea if it'll make it into the final game or not, but the Alt Environment is a Beach island vibe. Very different from the rainy jungle.
WIP: Glider
This is very WIP. By very WIP, I mean I started working on this yesterday. The Glider operates on true physics, meaning that you have to dive to gain speed and pull up to go further. Move your mouse left and right to bank and turn. It feels really good, the visuals need a lot of work but it's preliminary state feels really good gameplay wise.
Time Trials in Mode Select
The Mode Select has been adjusted once again to separate Time Trials into it's own section. This was originally hidden as Race and Time Attack in Game Mode and now has been pushed forward as another primary mode. Race mode is being removed and Time Attack is becoming the main secondary mode. PvP has also been pushed into a square tile with everything else to let the Campaign and Time Trials take focus.
Trials
Trials, not to be confused with the Time Trials section, are short levels. They are all around 20-30 seconds each and there are 2 per world. You can see previews of Trials in the Discord
PvP Modes
Along with all of this, there are New PvP Game Modes! There is Volleyball, Avalanche, Marked for Death, and more!
Improved Grapple
Another thing I've done is improve the grapple to properly wrap around objects visually! Instead of just making a sphere for each corner, it now actually wraps around the corner. This is a test image where you can see the grapple finding the edge of the object and placing the grapple point there. While it looks better visually, it will also make the grapple feel more accurate. This version of the grapple is also more performant than the old one.
The arrows and lines are the math references and won't be there normally. They are just debug.
But wait, there's more!
There's a lot more I still need to get done but I don't have anything to share on future ideas like weapons and such. I gave myself soooo much to do for 1.0 because I want to leave this game in a great state, but because of that it's going to take me a little longer for this update.
Release Date
Since I know this might be asked, I do not have an estimated Release Date just yet. Once I've completed World 4, I should have an estimated date.
Thanks for reading if you got this far! If you want more consistent updates, you can join the Discord! I post a lot of quick updates in there and on my Twitter. I'm also beginning to post more Short form content on YouTube pertaining to The Stickman.
