Hey all! Today I want to briefly talk about class progression, and how certain classes are accessed over the course of the game. While we do allow you to change a unit's class very freely, the list of classes that a unit has access to will start smaller and expand over time as you gain more ranks in different classes.
Essentially, we have a distinction between 'base' classes, which any unit can switch to at any time, and 'advanced' classes, which require experience in certain classes, or other special requirements to be met. Don't be misled by the names we've given them; advanced classes aren't necessarily stronger than base classes. Every one of our classes are designed to be competitive throughout the duration of the game. Advanced classes, however, often have more complex or specialized kits, which can make them stronger in certain situations.
Most of the planned base classes have been revealed already, such as Knight, Lumimancer, Archer, Thief and Pyromancer. Advanced classes that we've revealed include Berserker, Enchanter and Templar. These classes will be inaccessible to a unit unless they have reached a certain class rank on specific classes. For example, accessing Templar requires reaching rank 5 in Lumimancer and rank 3 in Knight.
Advanced classes will not appear on the reclass menu initially, but once one of the unlock conditions has been met we'll provide a hint, such as a silhouette, which should encourage players to experiment and discover advanced classes naturally. We've tried to ensure that prerequisite classes make sense where possible, like with Templar incorporating aspects of both the Knight and Lumimancer classes (high survivability, heavy armor/weapons and light magic). Of course, this is all still in development, so most of it is subject to change, especially the unlock requirements for classes.
