Welcome to the Granvir Development Update, a series showcasing new and existing features of the game. This isn't just a sneak peak, if you see something you like or have a cool idea, leave a comment behind. I want to make Granvir the best game I can, and I can't do it alone!
Granvir Building
Today I'll be breaking down how the mech building in Granvir works by exploring the different part archetypes. At the start of every campaign and between missions, you can spend your time removing and attaching parts to your Granvir. Every Granvir starts with no parts at all and by matching connection types, you can assemble your build. Lets break down the different part types that can be combined.
Legs
The first part of every Granvir is its legs. Legs dictate how the Granvir moves but some torsos might help out with boosters. A Granvir's jump, dash or sprint is provided by their leg choice. The movement abilities provided by legs are also unique in their own categories from a standard sprint to rocket boost or a high vertical jump to a gap-closing pounce.

Torsos
Torsos are the connective core of every Granvir. Attaching to the legs, the torso can provide connection ports for reactors, armatures, special modules, mounted cannons and shoulder mounted cannons. Some torsos even provide unique abilities like hover jets. Finally, the torso is the main provider of your Granvir's durability stats: hull and armor.

Reactors
Reactors aren't a flashy visible part but they determine your Granvir's heat capacity and cooling rate. High intensity movement like sprint and dashing and melee attacks build heat on your Granvir's reactor. When a Granvir reaches its maximum heat capacity, it is unable to perform actions that would increase heat levels. The current array of reactors plays with the balance of capacity and cooling.
Mounted Weapons
Mounted weapons are the most straight forward weapons and mount directly to the torso. These weapons are typically heavy hitters due to their low versatility compared to held weapons.
Shoulder Mounted Weapons
Shoulder mounted weapons play a similar role to their standard mounted counterparts. Most shoulder mounted weapons are held in a resting position on the back of a torso and must be deployed before firing. The weapons can provide much need ranged capabilities to builds using two-handed melee weapons.

Armatures
Armatures are highly versatile parts that allow a Granvir to utilize held weaponry. Some armatures are strong enough to function as their own weapons using light wrist-mounted cannons or long range cable fists. Heavier armatures may also provide additional armoring or the ability to hold heavy weapons in one hand.
Held Weapons
Held weapons are the broadest category of parts and feature light pistols, two-handed rifles, fast combat knives, massive claymores and more. These weapons are wielded in either one or two hands but some weapons can be swapped between the different grips. Unique to any other part, held weapons can be equipped and unequipped through the inventory, instead of at the mechanic.

Special Modules
Special modules are the final non-visible part and can offer some additional stats such as cooling rate or provide a special ability like a radar sweep. Not all torsos provide a special module port, so while powerful, it can be difficult to design a build around a special module.
Thanks for reading about all the part types in Granvir. What category are you most interested in? I'd love to do a deep-dive into a specific category.
