Irene had more to say about love, so I had to write that.
Got less done than usual because I had freelancing and got sick.
Have reached the optional-romance part of the story where Holmes and Watson can be in love.
Holmes, usually profoundly perceptive and a master of deduction, has a big blind spot about feelings.
Watson is freaking out about this conversation considerably more than I expected, which I suppose makes sense since I've been writing stuff in fantasy settings where bisexuality is the norm and this is Victorian England where it's a crime.
Also my Holmes has manifested as aroace. At least, that has been his experience up until Watson. This will make the gay love story slightly more complicated, but as I think he is actually demi or aroallo, not actually stop it.
Excerpts From Conversation About Love
Watson: Have you ever been in love, {holmesName}?
Holmes: No. Never. In truth, I do not think I am capable of the emotion as it is generally understood.
@choice ""Not capable of love?""
Holmes: Not in the usual manner. Not in the way the word is always used.
@choice ""Why not?""
Holmes: Why are men born with green eyes or brown? Why are some creatures warm blooded while others are cold and solitary?
@choice "Say nothing and listen."

Holmes: I am not without sympathy for my fellow man, but as a lover I would put myself in a false position. My mind is a mechanical device that uses reason to find truth.
Holmes: Love is a feeling that grows only softer souls. Mine does not have the necessary alchemy. I do not feel the sort of tender affection or warmth that leads to marriage. I never have.
@choice ""Never?""
Holmes: Never. I ran experiments while in university with both women and men.
Holmes: And with one quizzical individual who, in private, refused to make a definitive decision.
@choice ""Is this some manner of disorder?""
Holmes: I am sure it would be regarded as one if I were fool enough to mention it in public society.
@choice ""I am sorry.""
@changeRelation name:"watson" amount:-1
Holmes: I am not interested in pity. I am giving you data, {holmesCallsWatson}.
@choice ""I see.""
Holmes: Do you?
@changeRelation name:"watson" amount:2
Holmes: I think you do.
Holmes: Or at very least you are not planning to say something absurd or maudlin about it.
