Onimusha: Way of the Sword PV 3
Introducing a Strange Location and Four New Enemies, Including Dokyo
We got our first glimpses of some new formidable foes and Genma variants. The new trailer also revealed a stage quite different from those shown until now. It appears to be some kind of foreboding laboratory, but what takes place there and what is Musashi's reason for venturing in?
A Most Sinister Individual, Dokyo (Voice: Clare Corbett)

An unusual entity that spends much of her time in her laboratory under the capital, engrossed in creating new Genma variants. One glimpse at the facility's eerie nature is enough to make clear her twisted tastes.
A Fearsome Predator, the Greater Nue

A Genma created by Dokyo. It assaults its prey with feral, agile attacks, and strikes of lightning.
Kogashira

A parasitic Genma that puppets a human host, enhanced by the souls it has consumed. It releases Malice, which can bolster other Genma nearby.
Chijiko

A Genma created by Dokyo. A grotesque mass of stitched together faces and elastic tentacles.
Techniques that Augment the Swordplay Action
Here we'll cover some of the techniques Musashi will be able to employ. Feel the satisfaction of pulling off well-timed parries and deflects to negate enemy attacks, and utilize mechanics unique to the Onimusha series, such as Issen and absorbing souls.
Parry
Redirect enemy attacks by blocking at just the right moment. The unbalanced opponent will be left open to attack briefly, and they can even be sent crashing into walls or other enemies.
Blazing State
Parrying successfully enough times will trigger this state, which increases the power of Musashi's blade and generates more blue souls when landing attacks.
Deflect

Bounce an enemy's attack off your blade, depleting a large portion of their stamina in the process. This technique can also be used to send ranged attacks flying back at the enemies that launched them.
Absorb Souls
The Oni Gauntlet that Musashi has come to possess can absorb souls released by defeated enemies. Each type of soul grants a different effect.
・Soul Effects
Yellow Souls: Restore health
Blue Souls: Restore Oni Power needed for special skills
Red Souls: Experience that can be expended to unlock new abilities or upgrade equipment
Musashi can move while absorbing souls but will be otherwise defenseless. Observing the state of the battle and deciding when to absorb souls adds another layer to the combat.
Issen
A devastating critical counter-blow unleashed in the blink of an eye, and a classic Onimusha technique. Performed by pressing an attack button the moment before an enemy attack makes contact with Musashi, it is difficult to pull off. Those who succeed will be rewarded with high damage dealt to the enemy and more souls released.
You may have noticed Musashi pull off a new technique in the trailer.

Different from his standard sword techniques, this special attack saw Musashi twirling a double-bladed weapon overheard, impacting a wide area around him.
This is one of numerous special actions that can be woven into Musashi's repertoire in combat and we hope you look forward to learning more about the others in future updates.
