Update 1 introduces Preaching, a new way to spread divine influence without raising suspicion. Instead of confronting the city directly, the Prophet seeks out converts—choosing individuals aligned with Wrath, Desire, or Madness to strengthen their god’s power. Preaching lowers district threat, expands the Cult’s reach, and offers a safer path to influence.
This post breaks down how Preaching works, its strategic benefits, and how it fits into the Cult’s rise. For the full scope of what’s coming, check out the roadmap for all upcoming content.
How Spreading the Word Works
Spreading the Word replaces a Tale for the day, shifting the Prophet’s focus from direct action to shaping belief. In each district, you’ll scan the crowd, identifying up to six potential converts—each tied to Wrath, Desire, or Madness.
- Each chosen individual strengthens their god’s influence, feeding into that god’s meter.
- Spreading the Word lowers district threat instead of raising it, making it a safer way to grow power.
- Progression unlocks more selections, starting at two converts and scaling up to ten at higher tiers.
Every name, every whisper, every step in this ritual deepens the Cult’s grip on the city.
The Power of Choice
Each convert fuels the rise of Wrath, Desire, or Madness, shaping the Cult’s abilities and presence.
- Wrath spreads through fire and force, drawing the strong and the ruthless.
- Desire weaves through gold and secrets, seducing the city from within.
- Madness spills from the unknown, unraveling minds and bending reality itself.
The more converts found, the stronger the god’s presence—and the greater the rewards.
A Tool, Not a Weapon
Unlike other actions, Spreading the Word does not provoke Aranthor’s authorities. It builds quietly, reinforcing influence without drawing unwanted attention. Used wisely, it’s a way to strengthen the Cult while keeping the city’s gaze elsewhere.
The First Step in Something Larger
Spreading the Word is just the beginning. As Whispers of the Eyeless expands, so do the ways to shape the world—not just through bloodshed, but through belief.
The Prophet speaks. Aranthor listens.
