Intro
Greetings, Runners!
The year of the dragon began with hopes for Brazen Blaze to reach unprecedented heights. Going into the 2nd month, we’ve already achieved a few things we are excited to share with everyone.
And so we begin with our Presidential Bulletins! These will contain all of our updates, including recent events and results, the most recent updates to the game, and all other info we feel is essential for every Runner to know.
To promptly start our first Presidential Bulletin issue, let’s take a quick look at the results of the Open Beta and have a rundown of the basics we believe would help every aspiring Runner PWN the next time. The Lobby doors open!
The Open Beta
The recent 8-day Open Beta run has proven how passionate our team and the community are. We received tremendous feedback from the community on how we can improve the game. To celebrate, let’s look at our Open Beta numbers so far!
Quick Note: Due to Velvet’s mediocre win rate, we're fixing Runner balance issues that should ultimately make her have a better win rate in the future.
Brazen Blaze 101
So, a new challenger arrives at the lobby. You look like you need a hand. Here’s what you need to know before you shoot ‘em rounds and punch ‘em foes sky high.
The Training Room
You can’t just jump into the battlefield; you’ll have to know how to use it! While many skip directly to matches, the tutorial ensures you’re adequately equipped with basic knowledge before beating up other Runners.
You can practice basic movements in the training room and check each Runner’s arsenal, including skills, sub-weapons, and ultimates. Before you hit the road, the training room can help you decide which Runner you’ll be mainly, depending on your playstyle.
Practice your moves and understand each Runner’s capabilities. In no time, you’ll gain complete confidence to go mano-a-mano!
Voice Chat
Communication is a huge factor in winning matches in team competitions, whether in video games or not. While only some people love the idea of talking on voice chat, remember that everyone wants to win games.
If you’re shy, it’s okay - no one’s forcing you. Although, try turning on voice chat! Keep in mind: a coordinated team is a winning team!
Dashing in the Air
Do you know you can dash in the air? You can use both hands to boost while airborne if you're not holding an item (or two, like when Skybolt is using both her guns).
Remember that you dash in the direction your hand is heading, not your head. Use that to your advantage.
This is not an FPS!
Punching is your primary damage dealer! The other stuff - your guns, grenades, and skills - are just for extra damage and/or to make it easier for you to punch them.
Use your guns, grenades, and skills to set yourself or your teammates up for the perfect punching sequence! Remember, you have fists as giant as your head for a reason!
Lock-on!
The fast-paced nature of Brazen Blaze will require you to focus on your enemies. Since it’s a VR game, manually focusing on enemies may cause stiff necks.
Thankfully, there’s a Lock-on system in place! If you find it challenging to lock-on using your sticks, you can change your settings in-game.
Jump like a Gorilla!
Pro-tip: Did you know you can gain extra airtime by using your hands? Smack your palms on the floor and get extra mobility!
By the way, "Gorilla Jump" was a placeholder name for it as it looks like the way gorillas move, but we ended up loving it, making it canon.
Recovering a friend
When an ally staggers and gets stunned, ensure you’re around to heal them back to battle!
You can recover your allies by touching them. Remember, numbers win games!
Healing Items
In every stage, you'll find fixed items glowing in green. Punch them to recover some health!
Initially, you had to grab and use these health items. Still, punching them felt better, considering how important it is to the game.
Move away and Recover!
Battles in Brazen Blaze require you to be smart about your movement. Remember, you don't always have to fight - you have limited health!
Make sure you move away for a while when you’re low. You will slowly recover while doing so, making you ready for another round of fistfights soon enough!
Practice makes Perfect!
Losing matches with one Runner doesn’t mean you suck with other Runners! We have different characters for a reason. Mix and match your playstyle until you find your main!
What’s next?
We recently announced our 2nd Open Beta coming this Spring, 2024, and we can’t wait to bump fists with everyone again!
As we move forward in our journey, your support remains paramount. Your continued feedback will help shape Brazen Blaze into what it’s bound to become in the VR gaming space. Keep in touch with us, and we’ll continue to deliver as always!
