The Life Changing VR Demo
Okay, story time - gather 'round.
I can't believe it's already been a year since the demo was released.
We'd been working on it since 2022, reiterating over and over as we faced challenges and doubt.
A visual novel in VR?
A VR ANIME game? Why??
Where's the "gameplay"??
No one wants to play your gooner game / smoking sim / non-game!
But the support we've received has far outweighed the hate, and I'm really grateful for that.
I still remember the incredibly tough week leading up to the demo. It was stormy both mentally and literally (we live on an island), I was dealing with an illness, and in general, I was prepared for the worst.
Instead, the reception was INSANE. We’d playtested it with our community and refined it a lot, so we had a sense that we had something cool, but there was no way to predict what would happen.
Within hours, there were an overwhelming number of positive comments, posts, and videos about the project. After years of grind and uncertainty, it was a cathartic moment.
We had an an awesome countdown live stream thanks to our fans :)
People got straight to playing the demo and petting the cat lol
One of the crazy things players did. I was shocked.
More Than a Game
Over 80,000 people have played the demo, and there's over 1000 positive reviews!!
It’s amazing that the demo represents far more than just a game for our fans - for many, it’s a retreat from reality; for others, it’s a beacon of hope in the sea of F2P VR games; and for some, it’s something they can relate to personally.
For me, PROJECT MIX is far more than a game - it’s an embodiment of my own taste, culture, and life experiences, and represents what I’d like a VR game to feel like. I really hope to make games that are more than just something to "play" - I want them to touch the player's soul.
I'm so happy that PROJECT MIX has been able to bring so many people together - that's a big part of why I'm working on a game like this.
We have a lot to be grateful for. With the demo release, the Kickstarter campaign, and the support from the community, we were finally able to secure the resources needed to build the full game.
Every step mattered - if even one thing had gone wrong, PROJECT MIX might not exist today.
What's Next
The shop system is one of the many things we're working on.
So with that said, we’ve been working very hard on the full game.
We’ll be revealing more as things come together, and we hope everyone continues to support us as we work toward the 2027 release.
From the narrative writing and atmosphere, to the bartending mechanics, to the downtime moments - everything is being worked on.
Final Thoughts
Like with the demo, there’s no way to know how the full game will be received (which will decide whether we can continue as a studio), but with what’s in our control, we’ll give it our all.
I’m really grateful to everyone here, and I hope we can continue growing this amazing community.
I love the chats, the fan creations, the sheer amount of silly stuff happening, the suggestions, and more - please keep doing what you're doing.
Thank you again - your support is what's making this happen!
We've really come a long way, huh?
