Hey folks! It's me again, Gabriel Schade, the solo developer behind Elidriel.
Yea, Elidriel is a turn-based battle RPG, I know.
But I've always loved the energy and tension that real-time parry mechanic bring to action games. There is just something incredibly satisfying about perfectly timing your guard and knowing you earned that reward!
I was rewatching the legendary Evo Moment 37 when Daigo parried like 10 gazillion hits from Chun-li Suepr Art. There is something about that moment, the crowd exploding, the comeback, the insane amount of skill required.
It's one of the most insane gamimg moments ever.
Being 100% honest, I wanted even a fraction of that feeling in Elidriel.
I actually had an old version of the game where I tested a parry mechanic and... Well, it was discarded, I misjudged it. I thought it wouldn't work in a turn-based RPG battle system.
Well, more recent games have made super clear that blending timing-based mechanics and turn-based battle can absolutely work.
So today, I present:
Elidriel - Parry System!

Whenever an enemy attacks you, even powerful techniques can sometimes be parried!
All you need to do is press the <- LEFT directional input at the exact moment of impact.
Yep, just like Daigo did.
All characters can do it, it all depends on YOU.
When you successfully parry an attack, you gain:
1 TP (Technical Point)
This makes easier to unleash your powerful techniques!
But there is more, parry 2 hits:
2 TP + Attack Buff for 3 turns
Parry 3 or more hits:
3 TP + Attack Buff for 3 turns + Character can act immediately after the parry to perform any extra action you want!
Risk. Timing. Reward. Simple Like that!
Thank you so much for following along and supporting this journey.
Until next time,
Gabriel - Solo & Passionate Indie Game Developer
Don't forget to wishlist Elidriel!
