Hi there! Welcome to the inaugural patch notes for Forum Mortuorum!
What's New in 0.4.2?
Features
- Sound Effects: for combat & most UI buttons
- Audio Settings: in case you don't like my sound effects :'(
- Improved main menu background graphics (sharpness, color choice, & scaling). Enjoy some pleasant blues for a change
Fixes
- Fixed a bug where gladiators would occasionally be equipped with both a 2-handed weapon and an off-hand item
- Fixed visual bugs on the gladiator stats panel in which text would sometimes overlap
- Eliminated UI 'flashing' on stats panel when rapidly hovering over gladiators in quick succession
What's Next?
Next (major) update (0.5.X) will be all about progressing your gladiator's skills and keeping them alive! Here's what's in the works:
- Gladiator training, injuries, and healing: When a gladiator fights to the death or near death, it's going to take them time to bounce back from their injuries. While they heal you should keep them out of fights. For this reason, it's going to start being a good idea to keep a larger team of gladiators between fights! Healthy, idle gladiators will train each day to improve their skills, rewarding you for maturing your recruits before putting them into a real match.
- Non-lethal exhibition matches: While it's important to experiment and gain experience from 'practice' matches, it's frustrating that right now they're just as lethal as challenge matches. Next patch will replace these with (mostly) non-lethal exhibition matches where your gladiators can gain some experience while surrendering well before they take lethal damage.
- Better challenge selection: Right now, challenge selection is confusing. Why would a fight against 5 gladiators be easier than a fight against say, 3? The answer comes down to equipment and perks, but the current challenge selection doesn't tell you that. So, the next (major) patch will overhaul this UI to give you more information about who you'll face!
In case you missed it...
Since I haven't published patch notes before, it's likely you missed the MAJOR 0.4.0 update in February. That headliner of that patch was the introduction of a real inventory, shopping, and equipping system and a major overhaul of the school UI including a much requested readout of gladiator stats. It also greatly expanded the available weapons and armor (and their balance), completely overhauled the AI to make combat more fluid. It's kind of a big deal and if you even slightly enjoyed Forum Mortuorum before February, it's worth giving it another shot now.
