Hello and welcome to my first dev log for Choo Choo Survivor. My objective is to make the game a lot of fun and I’ve just made the following improvements in the demo V0.3.
I made all the enemies about half the size so they have to travel further to reach the player, making the game more favourable to the player. I also really scaled back on all the particle effects to declutter the screen and make it a lot easier to understand what is happening. I’ve basically adjusted the scale of everything to make the game feel more uniform as well.
I added two awesome soundtracks from Liborio Conti and they do serve a purpose. The main menu soundtrack also plays in game when you only have 10% of the journey remaining. The main purpose though of adding the in game soundtrack is to help reduce the monotony in the sound FX. All those guns firing (up to 5 guns with each firing up to five rounds a second!), and explosions happening I think starts to add a bit of fatigue to the ears so the soundtrack helps to break that up and make it easier to take in.
I ended up removing the sound that plays every time you level up. You level up a lot in Choo Choo Survivor and it started to get annoying to hear the level up sound! Maybe when I find a better sound I’ll bring that back. For now there are fireworks effects when you level up.
I added a new zombie that wields two axes (supposed to be a lumberjack gone zombie gone wrong). This zombie moves fairly fast, has a ton of health, does a lot of damage, but can be knocked back, so an upgraded set of weapons can knock these zombies back and help you harvest their exp tokens.
I want to add more zombie types to the game and I’m going to look at adding boss type zombies that drop a special pallet when defeated. Ok that's it from me for now.
Regards,
GTGD
