Paradiso
A Dreamworld where the lost find themselves trapped together.
In Paradiso, personal traumas and painful emotions transform into Nightmares, vicious monsters that torment its denizens.
A group of young adults who attend the same religious school share this Dream.
Their Dream manifests as a ruined hellscape ruled over by The Sanctum, an oppressive theocratic order.
Led by Father, The Sanctum extols the virtues of pain, guilt, and sacrifice. Together, they dream of summoning Messiah, an extremely powerful Nightmare that will bring them Salvation.
Father offers Cleansing, a ritual capable of erasing the sides of one's identity that they cannot accept.
BORN OF A DREAM
After much restlessness, Lucah arrived in Paradiso seeking Purification. At Father’s congregation, they submitted themself to be cleansed by his hand.
However, the Cleansing Ritual was interrupted. Lucah’s inner struggles had manifested into a Nightmare of unparalleled strength, Messiah.
Messiah laid waste to Father’s Congregation, killing all but one of them. Final absolution through devoted martyrdom; The Sanctum had finally achieved the Salvation that they sought.
The sole survivor was Christian, Father’s adopted son. Enraged to be left alive and alone, Christian was overcome with hatred, and swore vengeance on Lucah for denying him the end he wanted.
Lucah survived Messiah’s attack, and continued to travel the Dream alone. Christian gave chase too, and clashed with Lucah multiple times as he tried to hunt them down.
In their sixth and final battle, Christian broke down crying, and Lucah stopped to comfort him with a loving embrace.
In their waking lives, Lucah and Christian loved each other. However, Christian was unable to accept his feelings for Lucah, a queer nonbinary person.
By accepting Lucah’s love, Christian also learned to accept himself.
Freed by this act of love, Lucah overcame the doubt and conflict that entrapped them in Paradiso. After a final confrontation with the Dreamer, they finally awakened.
However, Christian remained in Paradiso…
