Hello Guardians!
We are overjoyed to be featured in the ‘Upcoming’ section of the Games for Waves Sale on Steam, organized by The Whale and Dolphin Conservation. During this event, gaming community members unite to gather money for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation charity that helps make the ocean safer for whales and dolphins!
For this special occasion, we wanted to discuss the Eco Rewards system in our game and how you can help our planet while playing Crab God!
How do real-life environmental actions work in Crab God?
We wanted our games to impact our players and the planet positively. Games are fun and interactive, and we want to make the positive impact of our games interactive. The possibilities of what we can do with game design and development are vast, and there is so much room to try new things and integrate positive outcomes into gameplay.
During your gameplay, Ritual Stones of Preservation that are found in some levels will allow you to create REAL-WORLD CHANGE.
You choose which cause you would like to support, and we, the developers, contribute to a conservation-focused organization. These are called Eco Rewards.
There are 5 possible Eco Rewards to choose from:
- Saving Baby Sea Turtles
- Removing Ocean Plastic
- Propagating Corals
- Planting Trees
- Protecting Marine Areas
You can pick between 1 of 3 each time you complete a Stone of Preservation. 10% of revenue received from purchases on Steam goes towards Eco Rewards and Carbon Offsetting. Once we receive the revenue from your purchase (this can take up to 45 days), we allocate funds towards the conservation activity that you selected via dots.eco!
How will I know that my contribution was validated?
At the end of each month, we generate proof-of-impact certificates. If you completed a Stone of Preservation that month, you’ll be notified the next time you open Crab God. These certificates show you how much impact you and the rest of the community contributed to, and where in the world it happened!
There is a limit to the number of Eco Rewards you can complete in a month. Once all Eco Rewards have been chosen, you will no longer see Stones of Preservation until the next month.
Why did we choose dots.eco as our partner?
Through a partnership with dots.eco, we are connected with a wide range of charities and conservation-focused companies worldwide. Dots.eco provides certificates for each conservation action, ensuring transparency in fund allocation.
Dots.eco is designed for games and helps make impact more tangible and integrated into the experience. It has a great reputation and works with NFPs and conservation-focused companies all over the world. Its strong focus on ocean conservation has allowed us to support many unique conservation actions.
To summarize how the Eco Rewards system works:
- Choose Your Cause: After completing a Ritual Stone of Preservation, select the conservation cause you want to support.
- A Contribution Is Made: Upon receiving the revenue from your purchase (which can take up to 45 days), we contribute to your chosen conservation-focused organization via dots.eco.
- See Proof-of-Impact: At the end of each impact period, we generate proof-of-impact certificates for all conservation activities. Once this is complete, you’ll receive a notification the next time you open Crab God. These certificates detail the conservation action and its global impact.
Economic Viability
We ensure economic viability by allocating 10% of our received revenue on a monthly basis. This means that each month's funds from new player purchases contribute to the conservation pool, allowing us to sustain our business model while effectively supporting conservation without relying on specific in-game activities or monthly sales targets.
Impact Transparency: All contributions are managed through dots.eco, which provides certificates for conservation actions, ensuring transparency and giving players confidence that their efforts lead to real-world benefits.
We hope this helps you better understand our real-world impact system, as we try to be as transparent as possible! Save your dates in June, enjoy the events, and be prepared for exclusive news and footage in the upcoming days!
