Today marks the start of the Cozy and Family-Friendly Game Festival on Steam. This festival features a wide variety of games that aim to create a cozy atmosphere. As part of the festival, Crab God offers players the opportunity to enjoy the game by employing strategic thinking or by taking a more relaxed approach!
Crafting the Cozy Atmosphere
One of our primary focuses in Crab God was to develop characters that players would love and care for - the Crablings! These cute, endearing creatures come with customizable names and personality traits, allowing players to form a bond with each one. Watching them grow and thrive in a beautiful underwater world creates a sense of attachment and warmth.
To create an atmospheric strategy game, we put a lot of work into the game’s visual and sound design, making sure they complement each other, and then backed it all up with a catchy soundtrack. This creates an inviting environment that players want to return to time and again.
Family-Friendly Mechanics and Visuals
The game isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a game with a positive message and engaging mechanics that make it appealing to all ages. The gameplay revolves around taking care of nature and improving the environment. Players can grow plants and corals to create beautiful aquascapes, fostering a sense of accomplishment and wonder as they see their underwater gardens flourish.
Crab God has a strong focus on creating a positive environmental impact; players will help clean up and improve our oceans through the in game eco rewards. They will also discover fun facts about various sea creatures, helping build a sense of wonder with our real-world.
Inspirations from other Cozy Games
We drew inspiration from many games, with Viva Piñata being one of our favorite cozy games. This game involves building a garden and attracting cute creatures, and inspired the discovery and requirements systems of Crab God.
The three co-founders of Chaos Theory have fond memories of playing Viva Piñata together in high school, and this isn't the first time we used elements from it in our games.
Crab God is a labor of love, designed to offer a meaningful experience and leave our planet a better place to live. We hope that players will love their Crablings, find joy in creating beautiful underwater worlds, and feel inspired by the positive messages woven throughout the game.
