sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've been quite occupied with a few other projects, my placement year, and general life (i'm also v lazy at times, 2023 is the year i finally change that ːdentonː)
i've worked on very minor changes to help improve the general gameplay experience, some of these changes have been based on feedback I've received from reviews, so thank you to those helping me build a better game for me and everyone else!
small changes :
- made the meditation task more explanatory (breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose).
- made the heartbreak task more explanatory too. The bad habits are darker, making what is "good" and what is "bad" a lot clearer.
- added out of bounds, you can no longer walk into the boundless and empty blue Unity void.
- fixed a bug with the meditation task not restarting properly.
- fixed a bug with music volume (might just generally lower the volume altogether in a future update?).
future plans :
also, from feedback and reviews, a lot of you have shared some great ideas with me! here are a couple I've taken into consideration and want to work on for future updates.
- cloud saves - steam cloud saves are coming! i'm still quite new to game dev so this is something i haven't experimented with before, but i do understand how i'd go about implementing this. please remain patient with me on this :)
- journal - people seem to really like the journal! they want more out of it so i'm thinking of some end-game additions to add to the journal, like being able to freely create extra pages of more prompts, or even blank pages just to vent out on. this would ultimately allow the player to build up their own little virtual journal with thoughts and ideas, which i think is beautiful
- self-love task - i want to allow the user to give more than one response to the self-love task, this would make it a little more unique to each player rather than having one set "answer" for each phrase. I also think it'd be cool to allow the user to think up of personal self-love phrases and affirmations to say to themself rather than countering the ones given. Not sure how i'd implement this yet, possibly an alternate end-game task?
- more music ! - i'd like each character to have their own little theme-tune when completing their task. It'd build so much character.
- customisation - allow the user to customize their sunflower, like the colour of each petal? idk, i want some sort of freedom for the player to express themself a little more.
- notes - i'd love for the player to be able to write and receive notes from other real players (like the game "Kind Words"). you'll be able to talk to Sol and request some notes to start that initial scavenger hunt again, this time the notes will be written from players across the world, sharing their positive thoughts, ideas and advice with each other. these notes will be added to the bag just like the original notes you'd collect.
