There is now a new beta available for testing the new terrain rendering system called "Terrain Rendering Beta"
I've split it from the current beta because there is a performance impact from the new shader which I would estimate at being about 10% on my 2080ti.
What you get is....
Highly detailed terrain textures that realistically blend between each other with no noticeable blurring or pixelation.
No seams between terrain tiles
Parallax effects to make stones, rocks etc that are in the textures look like solid 3D objects
Anti-Tiling systems so that distant textures don't have obvious tiling artefacts
Dust/Sand will blow in the wind across the terrain ːsteamsunnyː
Better GPU memory usage as all terrain tiles share the same texture set and no longer have unique satellite imagery.
Performance is obviously going to be an issue for those that are on the limit already. However, because the new effects are 100% shader based I should be able to allow you to swap to the standard Unity terrain shader at runtime.
