Hello everyone!
After a period of silence, we're back with exciting news. We've been working hard behind the scenes on a major update for Cat Dimension, focused on fixing critical bugs, improving gameplay feel, and preparing the game for its final release phase.
This update represents months of work and touches nearly every system in the game. Here's what's new:
Gameplay Improvements
Smoother Movement
Juicy controls: Added smooth acceleration/deceleration, coyote time (forgiving jump timing), jump buffering, and apex hang time for a much better platforming feel
Wall jump fixed: Wall-to-wall jumping now works reliably in Unity 6 — momentum is properly preserved
Ladder system rewritten: Climbing up and down ladders is now responsive and consistent. Stacked ladders work seamlessly, and pressing Down near a ladder climbs down instead of dropping through the platform
Smarter Enemies
Improved enemy AI: Ground enemies now detect and chase the player within an aggro range, with a speed boost on hit reaction
Fixed bat enemies: Bats no longer get stuck in walls or flip direction erratically. They now properly retreat after attacking and re-engage with configurable aggression levels
Fixed Fox Knight: The armored knight enemy has been completely rewritten — no more erratic dashing or infinite knockback loops
Enemies stop on death: All enemies now properly stop moving and attacking when defeated
Better Boss Fights
Fixed back-attack exploit: Bosses now turn to face the player when hit, preventing easy cheese strategies
Fixed Beholder phasing through the player: Flying enemies now maintain proper stopping distance
Progression & Balance
Automatic Difficulty Scaling
The game now features a progressive difficulty system that automatically scales enemies and rewards based on the current world:
Enemy HP, damage, and XP scale smoothly from World 1 to World 5
Collectables and health pickups also scale — rare items reward exploration, while common pickups keep you going
The difficulty curve is designed so enemies always take roughly the same number of hits to defeat, because your stats grow alongside them
New Quests & Achievements
5 new quests: Kill Bats, Kill Hellhounds, Collect Gems, Defeat the Dog Boss, Defeat the Goblin King
8 new Steam achievements coming soon, including "Gem Hoarder" (collect 200 gems), "Master Cat" (reach max level), and "Supreme Champion" (defeat all bosses)
Quality of Life
Tutorial text skipped on replay: Hint text boxes no longer appear when replaying levels you've already beaten
Better default resolution: The game now starts at your native screen resolution instead of a fixed preset
Fixed audio system: Volume and SFX settings now save and load correctly. No more audio bugs on scene transitions
Improved UI: Smoother fade transitions, fixed quest UI images, and proper localization for all new content (English, French, Italian)
Juicy Feel
We've added a layer of game juice to make every action feel satisfying:
Screen shake on hits and boss attacks
Hit freeze (hitstop) for impactful combat
Landing squash & stretch animation
Speed lines at high velocity
Gem collection pop animation
Health pickup pulse effect
Dust particles on movement and landing
Attack trail effect
Enemy death fade-out with slow-motion hit
Technical Improvements
Fixed 20+ bugs across all severity levels
Removed 46 debug log statements for cleaner performance
Optimized frame-by-frame operations (cached references, event-driven UI updates)
Fixed memory leaks from particle systems not being destroyed
Fixed multiple null reference crashes
What's Next?
We're entering the final phase of Early Access. Here's what's left on our roadmap:
Level design polish: Improving level connectivity, adding safety platforms, and enhancing visual variety
Final balancing pass: Fine-tuning enemy stats, XP rewards, and boss difficulty across all 30 levels
Steam achievement integration: Registering the 8 new achievements on the Steamworks dashboard
Final testing: Full playthrough from World 1 to World 5 to ensure a smooth experience
Thank you for your patience and support during Early Access. We're committed to delivering the best possible version of Cat Dimension, and we're getting close!
Stay tuned for more updates.
