Oy travelers!
Today will start our Summer mini-serie on our characters' creation processes. Learn more about their creation process, artists' inspirations, and even discover the first drafts!
First episode: Maximilian
As the game is located (supposedly) in the Mediterranean area, we had to take inspiration from South cultures and populations.
We wanted Maximilian to look fierce but also strategic. The posture was the most important element to embody this. We immediately thought about having him join his hands to show action of "thinking", "plotting".
Maximilian's first face and inspirations
As you can see here, we selected famous personalities like Willem Dafoe, Daniel Craig, and Iggy Pop for the face references. All of these people are know for their "tough guy" looks they often have. We added the scar to give the character even more a look of the Renaissance times. The Duke went to war and has what we can feel is his 'legacy'.
Maximilian's first outfit and inspirations
The inspiration behind the outfit is more on a luxurious theme. The reddish color of the outfit represents braveness, violence, but also royalty. We wanted to fit the medieval theme with the big sleeves, to give a bit more drama to the scene.
The final touch was to implement it with the key art background. The colors and design needed to be altered a bit to fit the whole scene.
The Duke, Maximilian, in his fiefdom
We hope you enjoyed diving into our creation processes. We really like to share some "behind-the-scene content". Please, tell us if you're interested to see more, we plan to post one character per Friday during Summer!
