Hello everyone, I'm Alastair, one of the developers for Cult of Cards. Our little team has been hard at work on the game and we've got lots to share with you about how it's shaping up! If you like what you see we'd really appreciate if you'd add us to your wishlist. Every wishlist matters for a small indie game like us!
What is Cult of Cards?
Cult of Cards is a 4 player turn based co-op horror card game that pits you and your friends against an evil cult trying to summon an ancient demon and unleash an apocalypse on the world.
Who are the heroes of the game? Where does the struggle take place? How do you stop the cult? In this post we'll be answering all of these questions and more...
Our Heroes
Every horror story needs heroes. You'll be able to choose between these five character cards to represent you in the game:
A broken down engine in the wrong place, at the wrong time is going to have The Driver rolling up his sleeves to deal with the cult. A good choice of character card for anyone who appreciates a good moustache.
The Tourist has seen a lot of terrifying locations on her travels. Legend tripping all over the world has prepared her for anything. If you've ever made a journey just to get frightened somewhere scary, then this is the character for you.
That t-shirt makes us think The Photographer might be a fan of horror games! Perfect for anyone who reckons that having experience fighting demons in a game would give them an edge in real life.
The Skateboarder is chilled out in pretty much any situation. Will they be able to keep their composure when faced by demons and cultists? If you're calm under pressure then pick this character card and show your teammates how to keep their cool in tense moments.
Facing danger is nothing new for The Cop. If you're a fan of action and risk-taking then The Cop could be the perfect character card for you. Show your team how to play fearlessly!
The Farmhouse
Cult of Cards takes place in a sinister farmhouse which has been taken over by an evil cult. Every turn you'll be searching locations around the farmhouse using a simple drag and drop system, moving your character card onto the location you want to explore on the map.
Collectable Art Cards
You'll find terrifying illustrations of the five locations that make up the Farmhouse map amongst the collectable art cards that will occasionally appear during the game. Featuring stunning art depicting the world of Cult of Cards, these cards will sometimes be revealed at random when you investigate a location. They'll then be added to your collection, filling up an art card album for you to show off to your friends!
The Altars
When you explore a location you'll be hoping to find Altar cards to destroy. Destroy ten and you'll win the game!
The Cultists
Watch out for Cultists and Demons. When you explore a location and find them, you'll be knocked down and will be unable to act again until a team mate revives you with a first aid kit. Even worse, you'll also get hit with a huge jump scare, which will be unique for each demon!
The Perks
Defeating the cult won't be easy! You can choose a perk for you character to give them an edge.
The Blessed perk will let you start the game with three charms. Charms are usually found at locations you explore and once you have collected three you can create a powered up version of one of the helpful items you will discover in your seach for altars. Starting with three charms lets you power up an item as soon as you find one - a strong ability!
The Curious perk will speed up your investigations by allowing you to search an additional location whenever you search somewhere and find only charm cards. Every game of Cult of Cards is a race against the clock, so the opportunity to search two locations in a single turn can make a big difference.
Another perk that can speed up your search of the farmhouse is Fast. Fast will let you make an additional search of a location on your turn once during a game. A one time ability might not sound like much but when used at the right moment Fast can prove crucial to the success of your team!
The Tough perk will save you from the first knock down you would suffer in a game. This means you can reveal a cultist or even the demon during an investigation and not be knocked down as a result. A good perk for anyone who likes to play fearlessly.
The Well Prepared perk allows you to start the game with a flashlight. Flashlights can be used to reveal a face down card at any location. Starting the game with one means you can take a peek at what card is at a location you are thinking of investigating. Helpful for playing cautiously and avoiding danger.
