Waiting for a match? Sign up for Hide & Seek, where you can find and shoot players hiding around the lobby, or challenge an opponent for a one on one in the Duel Arena. Try not to get too sucked into the fun, though, the next match awaits!

And don't forget - our play tests are on:

  • Saturday, October 7th from 4-8 pm ET
  • Sunday, October 8th from 4-8 pm ET

If you haven't already, scroll down to the "Join Ascendant Playtest" section on our steam page and sign up for the action. Already signed up? You're good to go!

Downloads and updates will be available one hour before the play test starts.
See you out on the battlefield!

Patch Notes

Lobby Activities

You can now play ‘Hide and Seek’ or duel other players in the lobby! You also no longer need to find a secret button to take part in the Rocky Road time trial.
Note that you can still queue for matches while taking part in lobby activities!

Hide and Seek

  • Every hour, a game of hide and seek will begin in the lobby. To sign up, head over to the back of the Drunken Drone.
  • If you don’t want to wait for a scheduled game, any player can also initiate a hide and seek match of their own, as long as it’s at least 10 minutes before the hour. To do so, simply head over to the console at the back of the Drunken Drone.
  • After a short countdown, one participant will become the hunter and be given a gun. Their objective is simple: find the other contestants and shoot them to make them join your team!
  • If all hiders are found within 5 minutes, the seekers win. Otherwise, the remaining hiders win.
  • The way to differentiate a player taking part in Hide and Seek from one who is not is that participants will not display nameplates when you’re close to them.

Known issues:

  • If you’re the first hunter and find yourself unable to stop moving at the start of a match, simply bump into an obstacle and you should regain normal controls again.
  • The hide and seek pistol is a bit poorly aligned, so will cover your crosshair when you ADS with it.
  • The audio announcement for a new match starting is not working, so we rely on you to spread the word when you set up your own games!

Duel Arena

  • If you walk up to another player and press ‘F’, you will be given an option to challenge them to a 1v1 duel.
  • Once the challenge has been accepted, you will get to decide on what rules you want to have for the duel, and which weapons you want to use (along with a pistol).
  • Then simply fight to the death!

Known issues:

  • The mouse cursor can go invisible when you appear on the rules interface. It is there, so you can still click buttons and it will reappear when you do. You can also Alt-Tab out of the window and click in again to regain the cursor.
  • Sound effects may sometimes get stuck when a duel ends.
  • Name plates will show up above your opponent’s head when you’re close.

Other Changes

  • Lighting and shadow settings have been adjusted to allow for better performance on older generation graphics cards when playing on lower settings, alongside many other performance optimisations. Note that we still have a fair way to go here, so all issues will not have been resolved yet.
  • The collision around a lot of rocks throughout the forest has been updated to make the rocks smoother and easier to climb, move around, and run over.
  • Text chat can now be fully disabled from settings.
  • The matchmaking introduction video has been given a new cut to reduce its length and focus more on just explaining the core objectives of the game mode.
  • Matchmaking will now take a bit longer to try to create more even matches before widening the search window to include everyone.
  • The ‘while waiting’ pop-up in the lobby now also instructs players on how to use emotes.
  • The screen percentage setting will no longer be changed by other settings when unlocked.

Bug Fixes

  • Friends on Steam will now show up more reliably the first time they enter the game.
  • Players should no longer be appearing naked at the start of a game while their customisation pieces are still being loaded.
  • The lobby now has a map that properly matches its layout.
  • Sound effects in the tutorial should now be properly affected by your audio settings.
  • Voice chat should no longer overlap introduction videos.
  • Various crash issues have been resolved.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the thermal transfer roof to be particularly difficult to climb onto.
  • Resolved an issue where a disconnected player would sometimes become invulnerable.
