Firstly, I want to thank everyone who reached out with messages of support and understanding following our announcement in December regarding the closure of Aurora Game Studios and the end of active development on Skye: The Misty Isle. Your kindness, empathy, and encouragement have meant more than I can express during what has been an incredibly difficult time.
Since that announcement, there have been ongoing internal matters to resolve behind the scenes, including legal, financial, and operational challenges tied to winding down the company and ensuring the project was responsibly handled. These complexities have taken longer than anticipated to work through, and I want to apologise for the continued silence while those issues were addressed.
One of the key reasons Skye remained available for sale on Steam—despite our original intention to remove it—was due to legal and procedural constraints while these internal matters were ongoing. Reducing the price or delisting the game before resolving these issues wasn’t possible, and I understand how this may have caused frustration or confusion for those who had been following the project closely. I want to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
After much thought and consideration, I’ve made the decision to leave Skye: The Misty Isle available on Steam. While active development is still on hold and the studio itself is no longer operational in the traditional sense, I’ve chosen to keep the game accessible to our community, with the hope that it can still offer an enjoyable experience for those discovering it. Additionally, I want to reassure you that I will continue to monitor feedback and aim to address any critical issues or community concerns where possible, in the background, as time and resources allow. While I understand that I cannot convince all of you of my intentions, I assure you I have made this decision with my love of the game and Skye at the forefront.
In recognition of the game’s status and to make it more accessible, Skye’s price will be reduced to £9.99, with a further discount during the upcoming Steam Spring Sale, where it will be available for £4.99. I’ll continue to review this pricing over time to ensure it feels fair for both new players and those who have supported us from the beginning. I hope this makes it easier for more players to explore the Isle of Skye and experience what our small, passionate team worked so hard to build.
Though this is far from the ideal path I had once envisioned for Skye, I still believe in the heart of this project and what we created together. While there are no promises of a full return to development at this time, keeping the game available—and listening to those still playing—is the least I can do to honour the journey we’ve all shared. There is still a lot for me to do including updating the steam descriptions with relevant information but I am working through all of the Aurora channels so that the information about the game state is relevant and up to date.
Thank you again for standing by us. Your support, feedback, and care continue to keep the spirit of Skye alive.
With gratitude,
Mark
