Making of Buddy, August 2022
Hello everyone! We have been working on this project for a long time but we have never had any devlog yet. So here we go! This is our first devlog of Our Mountain!
Today, we are going to talk about Buddy the dog. Buddy is a dog that Charles’ dad gave him as a birthday present. Now Buddy is his cute little companion that will travel with him everywhere. When Charles goes fishing, working, running, or pooping, he is always with him!
When you feel lost, depress, or get bored, you are always allowed to pet Buddy. Buddy who always tries to look cute will let you pet him without biting you. You can pet different parts of his body including both legs, head, and back. Each part will display a different animation. You will get pure joy from petting Buddy, making him feel annoying.
His life needs Apple! There are 5 apples on each level. Collect all of them and bring them to Buddy. He will eat all those apples and become a very happy handsome dog. With this awesome feeling, Buddy will let you control him and do whatever you want as Buddy. You can freely control Buddy, running around the level.
Playing as Buddy, you can get into a place that Charles can’t. You will understand the story more from those places. Collectables can also be found in those places too. Moreover, Buddy loves searching and tracking! When he grows up he wants to be an investigator! In the investigation mode, Buddy can clearly see the way that the player has to go. All items, doors, and notes, will be highlighted. Finally, one last important feature ever! Buddy can bark! Playing as a Buddy, you can bark as many times as you want. You can bark at the air, water, boars, bunnies, rock, poor fish, you can bark at everything!
Making Buddy is a bit challenging. This is the first time making this kind of AI so we have to do a lot of homework. Switching between two characters on the same level also causes a lot of bugs and troubles, especially on the AI controller system but we won’t give up on that!
That’s all for today! I hope you guys like it. We will keep updating our work every week. This is our first narrative adventure game so wish us luck. If you guys have any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment or contact us. Thank you.
